86 K30 - Sarge - strong box doubler and triple stick shifter

Bed looks great!

Thank you

This is phase one, basically the design ORD used for their UA truck, I really liked it and once I bought the 30 with no bed I was determined I would build my own. Phase 2 will include removable seating for two with more cage work up above to protect that seating. I am hoping to fab up a tailgate this week or next for it and do some LED taillights as well.

On a very annoying note, I'm thinking that some part of the bed decided to come home with me..............solidly embedded in my right eye :doah: :doah: .
Yes I always wear safety glasses, and yes I know what I'm in for tomorrow at the eye doctor (mini dremel to grind on my eyeball) and NO I'm not looking forward to it ......:doah:

I really like the bed how about some dementions the hight and with and how far out the top flares out.

Sure , I'll have to get a few when I get back to the shop, but...
The bed portion is 40" wide inside, and roughly 6'5" long, the sides are right around 16" high from the floor.
The materials are 1 3/4 square tube .125 wall ,and the round is 1 3/4 .120 wall DOM. So far I'm at roughly 75' of square and 60-65' of round.

I'll get the width and taper of the "fenders" later today for you :waytogo:>>> fenders taper from about 16" down to 10" or so right before the bend in the tube, so the bed is a solid 12" narrower in the rear.

No big progress today unfortunately :(

My diagnosis was correct , metal in the eyeball brings the suck !!! Got a lecture from the doc, and was told NO welding or grinding for at least a day or two :doah: :doah: I'll shoot for one ;)

We did fit the fuel tank, rear shocks are planned out, and the brakes are done minus two fittings.
Tomorrow, finish bed structure, front driveshaft, shocks, and hopefully bed floors (might have a hook up on some free 1/8" diamond plate :woot:) and then skins.

We got a good bit done today. I did not take a minute to snap any pics today but I do have a couple on my phone from yesterday which I will post up shortly. I'm really getting excited for my brother to fire this thing up and see it move under its own power again. Drive shaft has been shortened and will be installed Friday. Gas tank is in for good, and I'm a retard for cutting the floor out of 14 gauge instead of the free 1/8" diamond plate Josh got today :doah:, the 14 g was supposed to be for the bed sides and fenders not the floor. :dunno: I'm away on vaction until Tuesday and am bummed I will miss the first self powered movement since we cut the frame in half. It's crunch time. Let's hope the karma is good for us :waytogo:

Looks good though. Why on earth did you start peeling off the wood.... sticker. You're supposed to let nature take it off the truck when you rub trees and rocks and the such. :haha:

Ha! There was a rust spot on the lower part of the door that I had to get at and then for some reason I just started peeling the top away. I think I'm going to ditch the fake wood grain altogether once it's drive able again. I would like to replace it but I just can't justify dropping $800 on and wood grain and trim kit. That would be better spent going towards gears and lockers.

Well, its got shocks (15" travel pro comp 9000's ), brake lines, a fuel tank that is now connected and half of a diamond plate bed floor :D..........oh and the hydro assist cylinder is fitted and lines are measured ( I'll get them made on Monday). I'll be hanging with the family all day tomorrow, but I'm hoping for a good power wrenching session on Sunday :waytogo:

Well it looks like we are going to make it for the Rausch Creek trip this weekend :woot: :woot: My son Jacob (5 1/2) can't wait, he keeps asking if we are going to drive Sarg (his name for the truck since it looks like a army truck:D) through any mud or over big rocks and I have assured him we will.

Most all of the important stuff is done, just doing some gingerbread stuff now, like adding some tunes, a little rattle can paint work and some tie downs in the bed for stuff. We do still need to do a final bleed on the brakes and bleed the hydro assist tomorrow.

I'll Try to get my photographer  to load some of the pics he has, I honestly haven't taken a picture of it all week, just trying to knock out things on the list :waytogo:

Yeah man! I'm looking forward to seeing this beast in action!

Other then some " hot laps" in the parking lot of the shop tomorrow, RC will be the FIRST action it sees ...........not sure if I'm more nervous or excited about that :dunno:

I like how the tube bed looks :waytogo:

I've been thinking of doing something similar with mine, but I've been debating with myself whether I should tie it to the rock-sliders or not...
It feels like there will be a lot of stress on everything when the frame tries to flex now...:dunno:
Do you have the cab mounted solid to the frame?
And are you gonna connect it to a cage inside the cab?

sweet... dig it.. Willard'd be proud. nicely done...

sheesh, I'd swear that gas fill is the same Bravada one I'm using... :haha:
