87 Dodge Raider - Beadlocks & Grabbers

Do yourself a flavor and just get toy axles or waggy axles. You'll defeat the purpose of that kind of a rig with full widths.

What if I ran some H2 or H1 wheels with the bigger offset? Some stock H1s would bring full widths back to standard width but you would still have some extra hub sticking out.

Yeah thats true but then you'll have hubs to smash on rocks and trees.

Is there some dilemma with finding a non full width set in your area? A wrecker 14b is in the ball park of 63 in wide so if you paired that with a waggy front and 8 lugged it you could have 3/4 tons narrow track with no custom work.

Yeah, especially a waggy or EB driver drop dana 44. Full widths are way more popular down here so there are a lot of people buying and selling them. Whatever route I go I would like to get a set that is already set up with 4.10s or deeper and in good condition. Haven't tried any salvage yards, I'd rather buy someone else's takeouts.

Well 6 lug is 2 or 3 in narrower than 8 lug. Not quite sure on ford 5 lug vs chevy 6 lug.

I might just wind up going passenger drop due to availability although my first choice is still high pinion ford. What would be perfect is a guy who has done an SAS on a Ranger/Explorer with a EB or Scout 44 and was upgrading to tons.

If you did toy axles you could upgrade the front to high pinion later.

Are you talking about going aftermarket toy housings? Don't think there are any factory driver drop toy axles and i don't think any make or model vehicle had/has a high pinion passenger drop. Give me more info please.

Dana 44 from an early square Bronco would have a drivers drop. Not sure if they are HP or not though. Rear end would be a 9 in.

Yeah if we are talking standard/narrow width driver's drop options then the front would have to come from a Scout, EB, or Waggy

No you dont need an aftermarket housing. They make high pinion toy third members to replace the mini truck stuff up front. Check out trail-gear. https://www.trail-gear.com/TG/Diff_Housing__4_Cyl__All_Hardware_Included/i_0_0_/_140074-1.aspx

EBs are a mixed bag. Some of them are low pinion dana 30s, some are low pinion dana 44s and some are high pinion dana 44s.

I mean you could build a jig to narrow a full width...

I did my front 44 in my pre-tool owning days on a wing and a prayer and could give you some points if you like.

I'm not really interested in getting into all that with this truck. I want to buy something that is already built and ready to go with only a few changes needed. It's just going to take more time to find the right set for sale at a good price.

Big update on this coming in the morning when it is light out. Have axles, wheels, tires, & a couple other goodies that are coming off a 1990 Suburban I just bought from a guy down in Baton Rouge on Pirate. Drove 16 hrs in a 19 hr turnaround time to pick it up with a truck and trailer and bring it back to TN
