Cool, migrated over here from the lounge thread. It's amazing how quickly things get done around here.

"Hey I'm pissed I couldn't finish reading this build thread"... "Hey I bet we could find the dude and sucker him into coming on here!"... "Hey here's some dirt I dug up, someone call him and see.... no you, no you do it, ok I'll do it"...

Then BAM here he is all paid up and posting the end of the build thread. :)

I am glad to see a frame shortening done the right way for a change.
I keep seing people cut it straight and but weld it, the stepped cut you made is how it's supposed to be.:thumb:
Now did you keep the section you took out?
I am stretching my crew cab and need that section you took out.
I was going to use another frame I had but had to sell it.
I am in Lincoln, CA so I should drive up to Chico and check it out in person.

very nice truck, i wish i could afford to abandon my k5 and do something similar, ill def be watching this.

Another Cummins square body thread :woot: Ill be watching :D

Your truck looks great so far :waytogo: and welcome to CK5 !!

Unfortunately I scrapped the cut out section... I meet a guy today who is parting a 1 ton long bed who might be able to setup up with the section you are looking for.. I'll call him tomorrow and if it's available I'll let you know...

If you ever want to come up just to come up then come on up:D

Okay, this is the last time I will bring the topic up but when I was banned from 67-72 it was because I had inquired to the forum if anyone had a lead on a hydraulic clutch pedal / brake pedal assembly? I offered $150.00 for just these parts, plus shipping, plus packaging, plus their time.

I searched for these parts by calling every truck dismantler yard from the Oregon boarder, East into Reno, and as far South as San Diego, CA... I could not find these parts anywhere!

I posted an ad on Craigslist about these parts, and two strangers called me today to tell me they saw these parts at the Oroville, CA pick n pull... After jamming down the hill I pulled the parts as noted and paid Pick N Pull $46.00!

Every yard told me that this would be the price for the parts I was searching for so what I was offering to fellow 67-72 members was an offer FAR beyond what the parts were actually worth! I could have helped a member pay for 2-3 even 4 years of a paid status membership for what I was putting on the table.. 67-72 gave me crap for it after I had paid them for 3 years of my membership which had expired the last year of my involvement with the site, and low and behold two complete strangers who have never seen a penny from me hook me up off of a free classified site... WOW is all I have to say people! Far to many people these days are so caught up in technical details that they forget to be human...

A special thanks to my 6 year old Dorian who handed me tools while I husled to pull these parts in the last hour they were open! I couldn't have done it without you Son...

ANYWAY, I got what I needed today and I'm moving on!

Nice Score..:waytogo:

I've pulled a lot of parts from that yard. It's generally pretty good.

Drive Train Time..

So here is the new heart beat to what was once going to be a lost spirit GM Crew Cab...

2007 Dodge Mega Cab with 42,000 miles

Parts used:
24 Valve Cummins
G56 6 Speed Manual
Intercooler
Complete front wiring harness
Clutch Master Cylinder

What is not listed above was parted out to recoup some of the cost in purchasing the Dodge... Needless to say it worked out very well:waytogo:

When I purchased the Crew Cab I realized that it had a Dana 44 in place of the Dana 60. Considering I bought the truck for so cheap I didn't give the Dana 44 much thought but knew that at some point it would have to go...

After a short search I found a nice pair of axles located in Vacaville, CA.... The guy was selling a Dana 60 King pin (Non dually) front axle with a brand new Cross over high steer setup. He also had a Corp 14 FF rear axle with all brand new rear drum brakes, and all brand new disc brake conversion parts... He threw in a box that included all new bearings, and seals for the Dana 60... $1,000.00 out and I was on my way home...

The Corp 14 that came with the Dana 60 deal, and the Dana 44 that was originally in the crew cab when I purchased it ended up in my 55 GMC 4X4 conversion...

I sent out a number of parts to my local powder coater where they were shot with a Platinum Wrinkle powder... The parts turn out awesome...

So after the new bearings, seals, and new locking hubs I stripped the axle housing down and threw a little paint on it to clean it up... It's all ready to go!

The rear axle that was chosen for this build is a 2005 GMC Corp 14 FF with OE disc brakes and the unique drum parking brake that is incorporated into the inside of the brake rotors...

Dana 60 installed with a nice pretty aluminum diff cover.. Keep in mind that this is a Pavement Princess so I really didn't need a HD built diff cover...

So the rear axle is sitting temporarily on the springs until the Cummins, trans and transfer case are installed. I'll be building new front shackles after the drive train is in place so that the suspension height will be exactly where I want it with just the right amount of clearance for my 37 Toyo M/T.. I'm simply looking for enough fender to tire clearance for complete lock to lock steering and moderate suspension articulation with out rubbing. Once the front has been set I'll build the new rear spring perch height so that there is just a slight rake (Not perfectly level, not butt heavy, just a slight, and I mean slight tail raise.. Ah yes TAIL RAISING!). With the drive train in place I can also set the proper pinion angle of the rear axle to eliminate potential drive line vibration.
