87' GMC Custom Crew Cab Short Bed CUMMINS!

When shopping for wheels I was looking for something clean, custom, but still maintaining similar lines as that of the old square pickup... After calling Centerline to inquire about their Vector series wheel I was told that I could pick them up for $350 +/- each (Depending on wheel size) plus shipping. Not to say that this price would break my bank but I am always looking for a good deal when I can find one... The UNIVERSE spoke... A guy listed the exact wheels I was looking for in the Redding, CA craigslist for $300 for the SET... Yep $300.00 for all (4)... Bingo!

Interior Fab time...
This was a good day as my beautiful wife a two boys helped bring quality to building this crew cab...

The seats I'll be using are 2005 Tahoe front buckets and middle row seat... In order to make these seats fit properly a fair amount of floor fab needed to take place...

Ive never seen that design before, and i like them, a lot!!!! Phucking awesome build!!!!
 
HEY! We have the same forklift at work, it's the best dang tool in the shop! That poor little sucker runs day in and day out with little to no maintenance and just keeps chugging along. I had to track down a water pump for it a few years back and the local Toyota Material Handling shop said they were imported in the 50's/60's to be used along the coast in the docks.

Anywhoo keep up the good work and now I hate you even more that you have a forklift at your house. :)
 
Awesome work. Very cool to see your whole family taking part in the process. Those are great memories that your kids will keep with them long after you're gone. That's what it's all about.

So now I see someone else not afraid to cut the original floor and modify to suit.
I have a different design and hoping I can mzximise the space that was wasted with the original design but my complete floor will be coimg off and new floor and supports will go in.:thumb:
And as for coming your way, might be very soon, I am still working on my big rig and trailer this coming week but if I finish early in the week I will give you a buzz.

I spent most of the day yesterday removing parts off of the crew cab that will not be used in the conversion (All of them), setting up the new aluminum radiator in the core support to determine my actual distance between the trailing edge of the radiator and the firewall, and laying out potential cut and metal filling marks on the firewall and chassis...

Needless to say if you plan to do a Cummins conversion do not use the newer 24 Valve 6BT if you don't want a massive amount of fab work a head of you.

I have reviewed numerous cummins conversions and have yet to see one of them require massive fire wall fab. Based off of my measurements I will need to move the firewall engine recess back by 5 1/2" in order to have 1" between the fan and radiator, and 1" between the back of the engine to firewall..

I have dual electric fans mounted on my radiator which I may reconsider using them as it adds additional firewall modification requirements for the additional clearance needs (3.5")... Moving my firewall 2.5" is substantially less involved than 5.5"..

K, I'm done and off to go figure this beast out..
 
I know the 6.7L Cummins are different but from what I've seen the 5.9L early 12v's through the 24v's are about the same.
What's in the way that's different on the engine you're putting in?

Even the 6.7's are dimensionally the same, extra gingerbread in the form of annoying emissions equipment :doah: but the main structure is still 6BT.

I know my 12 valve is tight, but I am not altering the firewall, raising the trans tunnel about 2", in order the clear the very top of the bell housing and only because I'm running a manual. I haven't seen many common rail swaps into square body's but I can't see how they would require that much more fab then a 12v or an ISB (98-02 24v) :dunno:
 
Why not run your fans as pushers, in front of the radiator, if they are reversible that is. That way you get fans and don't have to push the motor back the extra 3.5 inches.
 
So I'm just going to post photos and add the blah blah later.. I'm tired...

I realize from the last two comments that you may think these motors are all the same length but this one is not. It does not fit with the stock firewall period and unless you would like to dispute the almighty tape measure which does not lie than I think we are done here.
