87' GMC Custom Crew Cab Short Bed CUMMINS!

The first set of measurements taken were of the radiator core support to determine how far back the radiator sat front the core support mounts.

After transferring these measurements on to the chassis I added 1" for fan to radiator clearance (Not much room so I have to keep it close).

The full length of the Cummins engine was approximately 38.5". I added 1.5" for clearance between the firewall and back of the engine making it a total of 40"...

I pulled a string across my reference marks on the front frame rails and had my wife assist in measuring back 40" to determine where the back of the motor would be positioned when installed.

After measuring back from the line that I setup which is a reference to the leading edge of the fan on the 07' Cummins I determined that the firewall had to be moved back 4" as shown. The last photo shows the section of trans tunnel that will be removed so that I can reattach the firewall engine recess 4" back from its original position..

Had a little BBQ for a late lunch (Tri tip and boneless chicken breast with home made ranch potato salad and sweet corn... Washed it all down with a Margarita... Ah life is good:woot:) After words I snapped these shots and thought to myself I must be sick or something to put myself through all this WORK!

Cleaned up shop early (Of course because of the margaritas which shot my momentum out the window) and enjoyed watching the Solar Eclipse with my wife and two little ones...

I'm headed to the scrap metal yard tomorrow to exchange a lot of scrap for my chassis boxing plates and engine mount material...

I'll be off this build for the rest of the week as I prep a customers BJ40 Toyota land Cruiser for paint...

Here is a link to the cruiser I'm building if you would like to check it out (Yeah I know it's not a GM)...

Why not run your fans as pushers, in front of the radiator, if they are reversible that is. That way you get fans and don't have to push the motor back the extra 3.5 inches.

When I set up the intercooler (Which doesn't fit so I'm having a custom one built) there is virtually no room between where the intercooler goes and the grill 1/2" max. Good idea though...

Uhmm. WOW. 1st. Welcome to the site. 2nd. Nice fab on both rigs. You definatly have some talent. And 3, you and your garage are welcome at my garage any time. I hope you are willing to share ideas on other builds, so we can learn to make cool stuff like yours.

And the cruiser would fit nicely in the other builds tread.

cruiser and the crew cab are sweet,,, CC is WAY nicer than mine. But I want to see some pics of the truck in the back of this pic too:waytogo:

Thanks Brother! On another note this is my Pascal Picotte shoulder tattoo.. I use to be huge into everything on two wheels. I went on a ride with Malcolm Smith at one point down in Death Valley, CA about 8 years ago... It was awesome!

I considered sleeving my arm at one point with different kinds of Jesters. That was an idea when I was a kid, and now that I'm a Dad I'm really glad I didn't (Kinda wish I didn't have this one to be honest)...

I've got the Jester Miller Elite welding helmet as well LOL...

I failed to mention a very important aspect of this build. About two and a half years ago I stood in my driveway looking a this beast with a vision. After sharing this vision with my wife she said in her typical authentic enthusiastic tone, "Sure, sounds GREAT"!

At that time we had a very nice 2005 GMC Crew Cab pickup that served our family very well.

After explaining that I would have to sell the 2005 to purchase all the parts required to build this truck my wife again responded with, "Sure, do what you need to do".

She has complete confidence in my ability, and decision making to insure that we wouldn't be left with a pile of expensive parts, and nothing but our thumbs to get us around...

Although life got in the way of materializing this vision in the time frame I had first estimated we have managed to make it work and are still pushing to make this vision a reality... Times are tuff, and it could have been all to easy to liquidate this project to take the easy road but I choose not to.

In a nut shell I could have never done this with out the support of my beautiful wife... Thank you, and I love you (My wife that is)...

I'm a lucky man gentlemen!

BACK TO THE BUILD!

I'm glad you like my assortment of chaos!

Sweet '55, my friend wheels a '69 FJ55 and it flat gets it. One of the most capable rigs I've crawled with.

Not to answer for him...but yes.:D
So do you know him?
I was trying to see the blazer frame but just now I was finally able to see the spring hanger, it is the same one.
Been a while since I saw Chris, where is he at these days?

I can't tell you how much time I have spent drooling over his wagon.. Very Cool Rig... He has my vote!
