87 K5 Build...Hmmm, whats that Ryoken up to? stay tuned...

I knew I was gonna do amber just cuz of it's closeness to the copper of the truck... but I wanted to have it switchable.. like a stereo has... so I decided on green too..

for a refresher, i'm doing indirect lighting for the floor from under the seats... and also on the ceiling from behind the overhead console...

here's a couple pics of the ceiling to get an idea..

tho these wheren't final placements, just kinda stuck up there.. and the pics came out horrible with the old camera... it kinda gives a glow to the whole ceiling, not really how the pics look... but ya get the idea..

chomping at the bit to see how the plexi etching goes... gonna try printing out some alphabet fonts, trace em and get it in the blast cab this weekend...

now I gotta choose between eleventy thousand fonts.. :doah:

:haha:

hey, suggestions are always welcome.... that's tonight monotony, going thru 100's of font's....

gonna do something at each end too probably since the phrase will only probably be about 2/3 of the space.. maybe a small bowtie at each end or something.. i'll figure/decide that once I see the lettering on it...

i'm thinking impact in regular.. now I just gotta figure out how to make em 2" tall in Paint... :haha:

How fine lined can you get the etching? Maybe the bowtie outlines out of barbwire or something of a similar nature, Just throwing ideas out:dunno:

well, you can get pretty detailed... :pimp:

but that is dremeled... i'm gonna try the glassbeading method first.. so it's whatever I can mask off... the plexi has that tan contact sticker tape over it.. so whatever I cut, I can peel out to expose for blasting..

that's a pretty neat idea.. I had thought that if I did bowties, I would definitely at least have the center stay clear and have the bowtie be like a 1/4" band or something...

but if I drew out the barbed gig, and freehand cut it with a blade, I suppose something like that is doable too..

thanks, i'll keep that in mind.. :waytogo:

the other issue will be how well the blasting effect lights up... apparently when you engrave, the deeper you go, makes it change in brightness... so I will be experimenting with that too...

those 3" x 36" pieces of 1/4" clear are cheap... like $4 or 5 a piece.. so trying multiple times isn't overly expensive...

Trick will be getting all the etched areas to light up equally so there aren't "hot spots" so to speak. Definitely looking forward to what you come up with!

one thing I thought would be a HUGE help in doing that is to pick up the router attachment for my dremel..

set a depth and go...

the other thing I may try on one of the $5 blanks is some sort of 2 color approach like is on that door above... I forget exactly how he did it, i'd have to go back and reread the article..

but it'd be neat if I could have some of it amber, and some green... maybe the letters in one color, and a shadowed effect in the other or similar effects...

I could, and will, if I find some locally this weekend that I like... I can order some that I found online worst case scenario for next weekend if the Paint/trace gig doesn't work out.. I just didn't wanna wait for them to ship...

well, I have better sources for that stuff than most being in my biz.. I got sign/ boat name guys I know thru the marina... i'm sure I could get hooked up cheap, if not free. but once again, i'd have to call someone, or wait till I see em, etc, etc... could be a week or 2 all said and done..

don't really know any vinyl sticker shops locally.. there is a "wrap" biz out on the main drag, but I doubt it's gonna be $15 or something... if I don't find/make something this weekend, i'll order a set and they be here in a couple days prolly...

it's been surprisingly hard finding 2" high alphabet sticker sets online.. and certainly not a wide selection of fonts..

OfficeMax has these...
http://www.officemax.com/office-supplies/signs/letters-numbers/product-prod4050150

and all i'd be doing is sticking em on the paper, cut em and remove em..

if all else fails, I'll really figure out EXACTLY which font I want, call one of my boat name guys and have him run off an alphabet set, or more than likely just the phrase.....

heck, I could have Scott from bighorn do em too.. was just trying keep it a little more simple than that... tho I could use a Zombie Squad sticker anyway....

can you get them to run off a negative set? That way you wouldn't have to cut them out.
(assuming you're etching the letters and not the surrounding of course)

I bet they could... actually, it'd be great if they where just cut... than you'd have both a pos and neg to use in various ways/projects.. I bet that's how they come off the machine prolly...

I could do that if you decide to wait.

man of the hr! :waytogo: was hoping you might read that by chance...

yeah, I definitely think I'll have you do something, it can wait a week or 2.. I can get the dash in primer, yada, in the meantime..

want a zombie squad for Mutt anyway... I'll shoot you a pm over the weekend... the critical thing is the letter's being 2" tall...

I still need to figure out a font, but it''ll be the same phrase I had you do last time BUILT, NOT BOUGHT! and probably have ya run off a few since I'll be trying various etching techniques and such..
