'88 Blazer 2016 Changes. Not many....Yea.

Thanks for posting. I'd have to do some reading to figure out embedding youtube videos:waytogo:

Ok.... I know I'm real sensitive to everything I hear on all my vehicles and there is a noise on my Blazer that makes me nervous. It doesn't always do it but if it starts I can pretty much make it happen when I want. I'm really nervous about this tranny and it surviving. It feels great but if I let off the gas I can still hear almost like tin vibrating in the wind or like tin sliding against tin:dunno:. This is something I've been hearing for years with this truck (3 tranny's is that a coincidence ?) I can make the noise stop by getting back into the throttle just a little or a lot. I know I asked something similar before but I was hoping the new transmission would fix it forever, but maybe it's normal or something else?

Any ideas or am I reading into things too much? I don't know the truck enough to know if it's ok or not. I'll start here with this and see what you guys have for me. Thanks

Tony are all the mounts good/ new? I replaced all u joints because of a similar noise but it ended up being the trans mount. Also another thing to try is to pull the front driveline see if it still does it. Then put it back in and pull the rear shaft. You could have gear issues.

I'll check and see on the mounts. Should the transmission guy notice bad mounts when pulling it? I know he didn't test drive much after the repairs. If I go ahead and replace the mounts should I do motor and trans? I think I remember reading they should all be of similar nature. I've been tempted for a couple of years to by Kerts (Diy4x) engine mounts.

Also, how harmful is it on the trans to drive with bad mounts. Logically thinking it doesn't sound like it would be good, but I'm curious to how much damage I may have or will cause?

It's good to do all of them at once but mainly to keep them all the same material. So if you have rubber at the motor, you would want rubber at the trans. It's not the greatest to drive with bad mounts, but unless they are physically rotted away it shouldn't harm it. If you are getting a clinking sound when you let off the throttle, the rubber is probably pretty worn.

I don't hear any clinking It's just the tin sliding on tin sound but it's constant until I slow down enough, slam the brakes, or get on the gas (even just a little bit). Sometimes I can do just a quick punch of the throttle like double clutching to make it go away.

That could be a bearing somewhere in the drive train. Tcase, ring and pinion etc. bring it to the dune party we will figure it out.

A bad bearing... this could be a definite possibility too. Any suggestion on Where to start?

I would love to bring it to the dune party, but will have to see.

cable or VSS?
Total shot in the dark. I hear my cable spinning even though it's a brand new Lokar unit. I hate hearing it.

Something like this crossed my mind yesterday when I was driving it and I was going to ask if it could be my speedometer cable? Do you think when there isn't pressure to it that it would make more noise? I really don't know a lot about this part of my truck.

Well, my rear diff cover has not sealed very well and it looked like it has seen better days (pretty thin and a few dings). I've gotten by with it a couple of years while driving me crazy because of drips on the floor Always seemed to have enough fluid):dunno:. I bought a new cover off Diy4x with some other things and planned on installing today. Milky fluid in the rear end and at least some bad bearings. Might be my noise problem? What do you guys think?

Also, is there anything else I should do while it's tore apart? Right now the plan is just bearings. Its a 14 bolt ff with 4.10 and a G80 gov-lock. Don't tell me to throw the G80 away unless I really need to:thumb: I have to watch $$ here so what is the smart thing to do? I can't have this thing stranding me either.

Yes that would be your noise. Master rebuild kit for all the bearings. And while you have the diff out might as well put new seals in. Check the hubs as well. Hope your ring and pinion still look good.

We are hoping everything else is Ok, and its just the bearings. Cleaning things up and checking everything over real well though. Any idea how water got in there or do you think condensation could be that much of a factor.

Check the breather, and make sure it is routed up high. Other than that the 14bolt hub seal/ axle seal could be the only other place. But if that was the case I would think you would have gear oil dripping from the hub, or the axle flange.

Everything was always dry by the hubs thankfully. The breather was going up but should the end be parallel to the ground or pointing down slightly to prevent moisture dripping into it?

Getting some miles put on the truck this summer. I love driving it, but it's just not as nice to get into and out of as my Suburban. Some of that is my fault (lift springs :-)), but the Wheelchair lift is not the most reliable either. It all needs time and effort and I'm short on bith with kids getting into sports and other activities. I actually posted on a facebook page, that a group of us started to keep these older wheelchair lifts working, that I was considering selling it. Then I kind of chickened out and didn't give a price because I was afraid someone might say I'll take it. I guess I'm not ready yet:burnout:. I did get a nice truck tailgate as a Christmas present from my in laws. I got that painted and installed. One thing I love about it is the ease of access to the back and it increased the stuff I can safely throw back as well.

I cut a piece of plywood and painted it up to fit inside the soft top tracks. This allows us to just drop the soft top and throw a cargo net over and strap it without hassling to stuff it in the bag. The plywood holds it up nice to allow the storage. I like this setup and it didn't cost much:waytogo:

One extra bonus with the plywood. My stereo sounds so much better with the sound come off the plywood instead of the open air.
Proof it's getting some miles on it.

Sweet upgrades Tony!

When you say sell it, you meant the whole rig? Or just the lift?
