Tweekls1 submitted a new Build:

89 K5 ls power on tons

Picked up a pretty clean 89 k5 about 8 months ago, already have big plans for it. I've always been a go fast person (Built a ls swapped s10, rx7 and fox body), but it's finally time to start a build I've wanted since I was a kid. When I picked it up it had a knocking 350 in it, 4" lift and some 35s. Prob over paid alittle but the trucks relatively solid and is complete. The goal is to build a decently capable off-road rig that can tow my rzr and drive decent down the highway.

The first stage of the build is almost complete. I pulled out the 350/700r4 and replaced it with ls power like all my other builds. Freshened up 02 6.0 out of a Denali (got lucky and scored from pull a part for 250) with 243 heads and a stock cam for now. Scored a 91 4l80e and matching np241. Got everything dropped in and got it started up before I left back to work.

Haven't really accomplished anything in the last month due to working way to much. Did start tearing down the cucv axles and cleaning them up. Ordered most of the suspension parts before left for work a couple weeks ago. Rear suspension will be a diy4x flip kit and front tc 4"springs with zero rate moved 1.5 forward. Haven't taken many pictures up to this point but will going forward.

Nice, glad you started a build thread

Nice looking K5 should be a good starting point. I'm doing a 5.3/4L80E swap in my '89 as well but mine is going WAY slower than yours lol.

Thanks man, I lucked up and got a nice size bonus from work right after I bought the truck so it got a nice jump start. Then I quickly realized that building 4x4s may be the only thing in the world more expensive then building fast toys. I'm still making progress but its probably gonna be pretty slow from here on out. You have a build thread going?

Sweet gottalove that extra income when it comes :waytogo: Yeah building trucks is a lot life building cars, the more extreme you go the more they cost lol. No build thread yet for me I'm waiting until I can start making some real progress. Right now I've just got a donor vehicle and a pile of parts collecting in the garage while I wait for the rest of the big things I still need...

Yeah it doesn't happen often, wasn't my company it was the one we where contracted too.. Still didn't make up for the 30% paycut we took last year, guess I'm lucky to still be working. Sounds like me, my gf doesn't care to much for the pile of parts in the corner of my room lol

Came home to a pile of parts, kinda like Christmas. Ord steering brace, 1" bl, and king pin rebuilds. Also picked up new body bushings from summit.

Another pile of parts waiting to go on.

Started on the kingpin installation and flip kit today. Had to cut the kingpins to get it out.

$240 for w 6.0, I'd say you are doing it fairly cheaply.

Yeah I went back today hoping to find another one for my s10 project, no luck this time.

Finished up the flip kit and got the 14 bolt in place. I really hope it's only sitting this high because the interior is stripped out, and the gas tank only has a gallon in it.

Hey man I talked to you on a local site about some axles, nice to see you have a thread going. Looking forward to the progress :burnout::thumb:

What's up man, you get started on yours yet? You had any luck in your search for axles, I ran across a set on cl a couple weeks ago and sent you a pm on the other forum. I've been keeping an eye out but people are crazy with the prices these days, I blame it on the mud truck craze..

Made alittle more progress today, got the Dana 60 put back together and under the truck. Then installed the ord 1" body lift with new poly mounts. Pulled the front bumper off and chopped the "fangs" off.

Fronts 4" Tc lift springs and 1" zero rate, rear is a diy4x flip kit. I'm starting to think the tears where lift springs... Might go ahead and order new 4.5" shackles to replace the 6" ones I have .

I'm usually against body lifts 100% but wanted it for clearance because I plan on clocking the 241 up hopefully above the frame rail or close to it. After the install I was happy with the decision, its not near as noticeable as I thought it was going to be. I managed to to get the 2wd steering box and the ORD steering brace installed before I had to go back to work. Also ordering 4.5 shackles from DIY4X, to try and bring down the rear alittle. If it's not enough I plan on pulling the overload leaf out. Ordering wheels and tires last week too, 37x13.5 cooper stt pros on 17x9 pro comps with 3.5" backspacing. Apparently the wheels are special order and will take 6 weeks to get in so now its the waiting game.

Yeah, I despise 2" and 3" body lifts, but have really grown to like the 1" body lifts.

From what I understand, the difference in lift height between a 6" shackle and a 41/2" should be about 3/4". Maybe EZ inch in the front?

Already have an ez inch in the front with the axle moved forward 1.5". It currently sits about 2" higher in the back, hoping the shackles and the added weight of fuel will bring it down level. I did find a salvage yard that's on my way home from the heliport that has a set of 56" springs, thinking about giving them a call and stopping by when I go in. I'm pretty convinced that the rear springs are 2.5" lift springs..

Well got the shipping confirmation for the wheels and tires today, guess pro comp is running alittle ahead of schedule.. Also took the plunge and ordered a sye from jbconversions today, little by little its coming together.
