Doing some winch maintenance. Everything looked really good inside, but it definitely needed fresh grease. Armature and brushes all looked really good. Planetaries and ring gears look great. It's been a great winch and based on what it looks like it should keep kicking for a long time.

I have probably winched more other people than myself, but I have gotten myself into plenty of dumb situations!
Was trying to think if I've ever seen your winch used then I remembered you had to use it to pull pieces of tire out of your trailer on the side of the road. And one other time in Penrose but it was for someone else.
Finally got the windows done. The windows slide down into the tube doors, skins are dzus on. The whole window panel and frame slides right out of the tubes for quick removal. The mirrors still can fold all the way into the cab if the window sliders are opened. So hopefully less breaking mirrors. Even though I have already single handedly made summit racing stock more of these mirrors

I've been trying to come up with a solution for where to store these in the bed when I take them off during a ride. The skins are easy and fit in a nice spot in front of the tailgate. But the windows are huge. 42" x 32", and they're curved to match the body lines of the cab. I originally bought a painters canvas bag from the chicom-amazon-shop and was going to mount it on top of the cage between the soft top and cage. It would have probably worked if could sew, But right now its a giant unmanageable mess.
So I think I have a plan, above the tool and strap boxes on little platforms. Just have to come up with a way to secure them. Working through that problem.
Here's another thing. I mounted the lexan with screws and very lightly tightened them. All was good. After a few days the lexan cracked around some of the screws. I've never had that happen before and have mounted plenty of stuff to lexan. Doesn't seem to be a strength issue right now as it only did it on a few. I think maybe heat swelled the lexan a bit once the shop heated up. I've got enough of it If I have to make new ones I can. Maybe @mrk5 has seen that with sign stuff.

Yes, we always float lexan/polycarbonate in a frame. It usually doesn't move a ton. Oversizing the holes would usually be enough. A huge swing in temperature would make it more pronounced.
I bet that's it. I assembled them when they were cold. Then when the machines run it gets pretty damn hot.

Just a stub shaft exploded on the carnage waterfall. My nemesis obstacle. Will rip it apart tomorrow and see the damage.
If you keep having that problem it's time to step up to RCP shafts.

I haven't smoked a stub shaft in this thing ever. Those were 4340 35spl yukons from 2012. They did damn well and don't owe me anything,
It was a mudpit below the waterfall as usual. I was working the crawl line for awhile. Then decided to try the hammer down line for a good couple of shots. No dice there. Threw the winch line on and she let go on the winch. Was just a little snap I heard so I'm sure it went just before on the last line but its so violent on the launch there you can't really hear much. With that said nobody in the group made it on saturday.
Anyways, theres a vote for RCV. Not sure what I'll go with yet, I'm about to tear it down now after I get the shop turned on. Lets hear some other axle shaft thoughts.

I have no advice to give on axle shafts, but I did just read through the whole build. Excellent work and a very nice rig. I was taking a gander whenever I could at BB 2022.
