'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
Haven't done much over the past couple weeks. Did get some new shifter knobs from DIY4x.
They come with a threaded insert that you chemically weld in place. Here's what comes in a package:
By keeping the threaded insert separate it allows Kurt to keep a more diverse stock without having to have a bunch of oddball combos.
I needed a 1/2-13NC thread for the Art Carr shifter and 7/16-20NF thread with NP241 pattern knob of the tcase cable shifter. A factory NP241 knob is 7/16-14NC.
Here they are installed:

Being aluminum they shouldn't be too awfully bad.

I never had an issue with the silly chrome skull on the Art Carr shifter before. But aluminum does pickup heat quickly. Be interesting to see.

Those shifters are bling! I have this machined aluminum knob in my dodge to replace the tee handle one the PO installed. Its cool looking but in -20 weather its frosty and summer can get quite hot, especially if in the sun through the glass.
Looked at your thread a couple times now, I think when the time comes Imma convert the old mans camper special to 4x4 w/my k20 parts.

Yesterday evening my dad passed away unexpectedly at home. Some of you may have met him on Colorado wheeling trips and at Blazer Bash. His username here was fred2mihi but he hadn't been very active on the forum in the past couple years.
He always supported me in everything I did. Heck I know at least 50% of the reason he went wheeling and posted on the forums was just to spend time with me.
Every job he ever had was driving and most of that in the ag industry. Throughout his life he did work on a custom harvest crew, farmed his own land, hauled grain for his neighbors, drove fertilizer applicators for several outfits, ran a road grader for the county for a few years, hauled cement to remote mountain locations (one of his favorite jobs), hauled grain to feedlots, and most recently he had started driving a school bus which he was thoroughly enjoying.
I'm going to miss going to the local stock car races with him. He hardly missed a race even if he just went by himself.
It's going to be hard not having that constant presence in my life anymore. I know it sounds cliché but he was as much a friend as he was a father.
If anyone is interested in attending services PM me. They will be Tuesday the 7th out at an old pioneer cemetery in eastern Colorado, trust me you'll need directions. But anyone is welcome. We're keeping it casual and asking people to wear caps in his honor because he never went anywhere without one and he had a huge collection.

Wow, sorry to hear about that Scott
Very sad day. Meeting Fred was one of the highlights of my first Blazer Bash (with my truck). I think of him often and am sad he is gone. My condolences and prayers to you and your family, Scott.

Lost my dad this holiday season and my thoughts are with you! Just a little side note to those of you with fathers still around,spend some time with them whether its golf,4 wheelin fishing bsing or whatever,take the time and do it now. Have a Healthy and Happy new year everyone!

On another note the shifters look great. My 241 has an aluminum shifter on it and my 205 has the aluminum shifters from speedway. None have burned me yet, never even really noticed a problem. They get a little warm if we have been in the truck all day, but so does the steel nv4500 shifter.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. Yesterday was the funeral and definitely and day for sadness. Saturday we'll have the celebration of life and I think that will be good for everyone. We had a lot more people than I expected at the funeral and I'm sure more to come Saturday. We have relatives flying all the way from Alaska.
I wasn't ready for a return to the office today. I stayed home and worked through the computer doing email and design stuff. Also took some time to cruise around in the crewcab for the first time in a month. The DIY4x knob is a very comfortable fit in my hand; I like it.
I also logged some data through the ALDL cable B_to_C gifted me quite some time ago. Now I need to do some reading to figure out what the data is telling me.
