'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
Looking good! :pimp: The bed / bumper have a great look from the rear too.

I may have missed it, what are you going to do about the fuel filler neck?

How's your rear shackle angle? It's not too vertical holding the truck up instead of swinging? Gonna do any removable rear mud flaps to keep the coppers happy or just go with it? I don't do them unless I have to ever.

You got a real anti-carolina squat thing going on there. I like the overall look. Interested to see if the springs come down a little with added weight/fuel.

Great work for sure.
I'm wondering if some of what's going on is due to the wheelbase change and the way weight is being distributed. Also not really having any weight past the axle.

I've intentionally been keeping that under wraps. I will say it will be in front of the passenger tool box.

Yes.
Having no weight behind the axle means more weight is shifted to the front.
But shortening the wheelbase doesn't change the weight distribution.
It's the position of the axle in relation to the weight above it

They're pretty vertical. I'm kinda stuck with it tho due to long term plan. I want to replace the backwards asymmetrical 56" springs for symmetrical 60" ORD springs. I've made provisions to move the flip brackets back for that and I really don't want to add another set of holes in addition to that.

I haven't heard of mud flaps being an issue in CO. I could add them pretty easy if I have to. We've talked about it even on the factory bed to protect the camper. My plan then had been to make a bracket that worked with the receiver hitch.

I agree, you are right. If anything more of the cab weight would be felt by the rear springs now which should have the opposite effect.

Heck the chunk of frame I cut off and receiver hitch weighed 100 pounds and that's all behind the axle. Plus the bumper I had was probably pushing 100 pounds.

Before paint I wire brushed all the welds for 2 reasons; to clean them and to check for anything I missed. Sum gun, I still missed a spot right at the back where all can see.

I had nicked that spot with the cutoff wheel and missed welding it shut.

That pic also gives you an idea of the texture. I noticed where it covers over the welds it kinda looks line it just dumped too much texture. :dunno:

doh! Hate when that happens. and it's ALWAYS in the most easily viewed spot.
