'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
Yeah, I'm guessing it was the Rubicon, but I also haven't looked at those bolts in 5 or 6 years.

Funny you guys say that, I was just thinking this weekend about how these trucks are going up in value and scarcity and here I am beating on it. The guy that bought the MarkIV engine is into squatebodies and super excited about the idea of going wheeling with us. I was thinking man do I want to corrupt a young squarebody fan that way? :haha:

I told this story in the engine for sale thread, but not here.

When the buyer came to look at the engine in the truck he asked me if the crew cab used to have a full bed on it. I said yes and he said "I thought this truck looked familiar!"

The guy that bought the engine is 24. He went to school in the small town of 2,500 where I live. When he was going to middle school he walked by the crew cab parked at our house everyday on his way to class. Because I was selling it from our business in a larger city 20 minutes south of where I live, he didn't put 2 and 2 together until he saw the truck in person.

He said it helped contribute to his passion for squarebodies. As Nate put it, "You indirectly finically ruined someone's life" :haha:

No.

He sold him the good Columbian Cocaine. Now he'll be hungry for life.

Need some help IDing what I assume are sensors. Thinking maybe @Capt Ron and @ZooMad75 will have some ideas.

Is this oil pressure?

EGR and MAP?

Fuel pressure?

Top pic is the pressure sensor. You should be be able to screw in your other sensor you had for your aftermarket gauge or if the terminator needs an oil pressure input.

Second pic is egr and not the map. That second part is a evap purge valve. The hose is the giveaway.

Third pic the cap is the fuel pressure test port.

Since you will be deleting egr, you can put a cap on that large round port and use the base of the egr valve as a template to cut a block off plate.

I’d attempt to keep the evap system in tact if you can. I’ve run both the 5.3 and 8.1 without evap and the fuel smell coming from the truck on longer drives is obnoxious. My harness was set up for it but I had not installed the charcoal canister before the engine shelled. I have one from a 2nd gen S10 that I was going to install. Again I’m not sure if the terminator can run the evap, but it’s worth it to eliminate the fuel odor.

What about the connector below the fuel pressure test port? It's just behind the thermostat housing.

I almost tipped my engine on its lid trying to drain as much coolant as possible.

When I put the first 454 in the crew cab I decided to invest in a good engine stand. No matter how good and sturdy it is, it still makes me nervous putting a 454 on the stand.

Pretty sure I'm gonna make legs that bolt to the front of the engine. I am glad I invested in the stand because it's easy better than what I had.

Remember setting a 6bt fully dressed Cummins on a stand. Think the engine was a 100lbs under the rating. We shoved a 2x4 under the balancer to support it.

I was thinking about how much worse it would be with a Cummins. I have done the 2x4 under the damper, but it's going to be off for the cam swap.

You could build braces that bolt to the motor mount bosses.

From what I can see of your stand, I think that you worry too much. They will take more than you think. You aren't going to be doing stupid things.
I have seen a guy haul small blocks across town with them on a stand that wasn't built like that one. He looked confused when I asked why he didn't pull it off and set on the deck. Said that he had done it many times.
