'90 K5 "Project Sanity" Sold 7/5/2018

OK finished up a couple of tie in brackets associated with the engine cross member, leaving me no viable excuses for not installing the engine. So I did. It went in smooth even doing it by myself.

This pic shows oil pan clearance to the cross member. Right at 1/2" under the pan.

Not sure why, but the exhaust manifolds bolted right up and clear everything. I'm not complaining, saves buying headers. :waytogo:

Driver's side (sorry it's a little blurry)

Maybe more later, we'll see if anything pic worthy happens or not. :D

Seems like others have had trouble with exhaust/frame interference, guess you got it right!

On mine, the manifolds fit fine, but the driver side down pipe needed a wedge cut out of it to angle it back towards the motor.

Hey Dude! Any news on the beast?

Did you find some inner fenders?

Me and Colby gotta drive to Spruce Grove tomorrow to get a t case but its at 9am and we got to do a quick turn around back home.

Ordered a new pair from Cross Canada auto body. Similar to LMC, but less selection. They have a warehouse in Calgary, so they should be here early next week.

Started to drop the fuel tank.

Picked up a NP241 from a 95 tahoe last weekend. Swapped my front CV flange on it. Gonna order the SYE kit.

That's about it.

Nothing pic worthy lately, but I have been plugging away at a few things. As I mentioned earlier I am leaning on Russel regarding the 5.3 swap. We talked about what's needed before he comes over and works on the wiring stuff. A big one of course is fuel delivery. on Russel's advice I picked up an in tank fuel pump for a 92 Camaro with the TPI 350. It runs the right pressure and volume, and more importantly is a direct fit for where the TBI pump was.

Delphi PN# FE0110 is what i ended up with.

There is a sweet spot in K5 ownership for me...and it's when I've broken or replaced the last rusty bolt on the truck. I'm getting closer. :doah: As expected the gas tank straps didn't survive. Fortunately there wasn't much fuel in the tank when I removed it. 7 or 8 gallons I guess. I thought of burning it off a little at a time in our fire pit. All I managed to do was accidentally light my 5 gallon plastic pail on fire, kick the flaming remains towards the fire pit and finally just chucked the whole pail in there. :haha:

The rest I poured into 4 approved containers and have safely stored til I can recycle it somewhere.

The locking ring pissed me off for about half an hour. I did get it without wrecking it. I was surprised. I do have a brand new 31 gallon TBI tank, so the old sender with new fuel pump is now installed in the new tank.

Gas tank skid I snapped 4 out of 6 bolts. I'll get that fixed.

Next up, I had a good look at all my fuel and brake lines. Have to be original, and look awefully crusty. So, I spent $644 at inline tube for all new. :doah:

next on the credit card punishment list was LMC. Got a bunch of stuff coming from them too...another $550.

No longer the 'no budget' build...but it'll be safer and look better. :waytogo:

So that's it for now.

fuel and brakes are the scary stuff for me....I just imagine a runaway truck with no brakes and catching on fire with it full of little kids or nuns...

I've blown steel brake lines and soft lines before and it's never fun. As for the fuel lines...that is scarier IMO. 10-12 psi is one thing, but running 40+ through crusty old lines just frightens me.

I as well, Im glad I put in new on the Maiden...anything with that much pressure got new braided stainless lines, the return line and line feeding the pump (on the frame) got the braided fabric lines that came with the FAST kit. good piece of mind!

You're welcome to it, no leaks. Got a few small mystery dents but nothing big. I'll take a better look at the baffle and let you know.

Sweet! Thanks! I need one to put 64s in the back of my truck.
Found you a steering wheel... pic tomorrow!

It's a really comfortable wheel, and IIRC about an inch smaller diameter than the older style. I had one in my '81 Jimmy and loved it.
