Comfy/cool lookin wheel for sure, had one in my 84 K5. Still have it attached to a column, just haven't bothered to swap it on one of my rigs yet

I think those later model steering wheells were 15" diameter vs. 16" for the older ones. It does make a difference. Plus they're thicker around. Lots of guys prefer the later model wheel.
I blame Martin for making me do it, but yeah, well worth it for those us with aging arthritic fingers. Soo much easier to grasp.

Looks like it is pretty flat, no dish to it?
I think my factory wheels (76-77) have a slight (1" or so?) recess to them.
So in relation to the factory wheel, does it sit slightly farther from the driver?

I am seriously just the exact wrong height for any of the stock wheels bugs me. I have a smaller wheel on the jimmy cause when you tilt the column all the way down its the only time I can see all my gauges. I really dig those stock wheels. My grant is getting worn out and I just dont wanna buy another one.
Oh well just another issue for being tall with tiny short legs its why I fall all the time

I think the '88-'95 steering wheels stick out towards the driver about the same amount as the '73-'87 wheels did, when you factor in the extra thickness of the wheel. They are definitely much closer to you than the ones with air bags are. You won't have to stretch your arm way out like you do with late model trucks. I don't see why they can't make the newer wheels more dished so you can drive in a more relaxed manner.

This is the '72 wheel next to the 90's wheel.
Left to right, 72 wheel, 80's wheel, 90's wheel. No difference between the 80's wheel and the 90's wheel.
The other difference between the earlier wheels and the 90's wheel is the horn set-up. I have a second non tilt column here I'm gonna dig into deeper. The 90's wheel needs a ground wire with a spade connector coming up to the horn button.

You know, we might obsess slightly over seemingly trivial details. 
However, about the eleventieth time Martin told me I needed the new-style steering wheel, I went and got one ... and then immediately turned around and did the other truck too. The difference is night and day.
Anyway, the ground pigtail should go to a spring poking through the plastic ring thing (highly technical term) which then has a brass pad all the way around the bottom to ground it.

I was able to drop the 90's style wheel straight onto a '77ish column without issue.

Yeah, I didn't get the ground pigtail with the wheel. I should be able to whip up a wire with a spade terminal and make it work.
I could grab that chunk for the horn if you like... that was fun yesterday!

I had to be good, it's a hundred mile drive home and I had been up for 22 hours.
I had a ton of fun, Dan is a funny guy...and you guys together are hilarious.
Every visit to you guys is awesome, Deb and Vanessa had a blast too. We did have to stop in the middle of east bumblefukk for a potty break for Deb. It was good to take a walk around the truck in the cool air too. I was getting pretty sleepy for a while. You guys gotta come up here and stay the night sometime soon...now that your done flinging sh1t all over Dan's place.
