'90 K5 "Project Sanity" Sold 7/5/2018

The one Garbage truck I drive has Sirius...I really enjoy it, and am spoiled by no commercials or other BS. My daughter got me a gift card for Xmas, and at that store they had the Sirius Stratus 5 on sale for $29...I couldn't resist. I used a couple other gift cards I got to pick up the Sony Xplod deck and a pair of 6.5" pioneer speakers for the front doors. For rear speakers I had a set of Koss 6X9's in boxes.

I have about $100 out of pocket into this. It will be nice to have good tunes I can actually hear in this thing. I've had K5's since '90 and not one had a decent stereo.

The door speakers turned out good, the rear speaker set-up looks a little odd, but I think will work good. I'll get it finished up and post a few pic's.

I need to find a set of the security torx drivers so I can loosen my hardtop though, the Sirius mag antenna needs to go on the steel hardtop. I just hope it doesn't leak after.

I ran mine up the door jam and put it on the front corner just above the drivers seat. This allowed me to run it into the jam below the dash level, keep the cord tucked into the weatherstrip, and then place the antenna on the roof. Unless you are looking for it, you won't even see it sitting there. To me this eliminated any possibility of creating more leaks from the top, and if any leak did occur it would be low on the door, rather than being above my head.

I ran an xm antenna on top of the dash on the inside of the vehicle. It worked just fine, but that car had a very sloped windshield so it may work better than the more vertical windshield on a k5.

I have a couple of XM's (same thing) and the one in my motorhome is a small plastic antenna box about 2" square that is mounted on the windshield lower left side. The wire runs down the front air vent and inside. Unless you know what to look for you would not even see it from 3 feet away. Stop into a Sirus installation shop and ask what they have because mine has worked great all across the US.

It comes with a mag antenna, roughly 1.5" round and maybe 1/4" thick. i should be able to tuck the wire under the windshield rubber no problem. I had another look tonight and it's very thin.

What do you mean about the "hope it doesn`t leak" it never rains in B.C.

Nothing to worry about... right.

It wasn't anything to get excited about. Got 7" overnight, by 5:30 am it was already drizzling instead of snowing. Slushy greasy crap to drive in but already half has melted and I'm gonna guess by early evening you'll be hard pressed to find any white sh!t anywhere.

It's 8 or 9 C here right now (46-48F) and not supposed to cool down much overnight.

It can be a major pain in my ass for work, but just once this year I'd like to see it cold enough for good powder...have 12-15" come down and then stay for at least a few days. I hate these snowstorms that transition into monsoon rains immediately. No fun for the kids at all.

I did get my stereo and Sirius satellite radio installed in the Blazer. I'll have to go out and snap a couple of lame pic's. Sounds pretty good considering I have no carpet or side panels or headliner.

Doit Rene....be a poser:haha::haha:

Lame-o stereo pic's.

6.5" Pioneer speakers in the doors.

6x9 Koss speakers in small boxes. I have had these lying around for quite a while. I do plan on something sexier down the road, this works quite well for now even though it's not the most visually pleasing.

I was thinking to myself, "Jesus, 140 mph speedometer???" Then I remembered Canada . . . . . .

Also, did the lower trim levels still get the old steering wheel, or has someone robbed your newer style on and replace it with that?

I know what your saying, grew up there, the snow just don`t last.
We always watch the Bc tv news all our freinds and family live there.
The last good snow I remember was what 94 I think thats right that was fun!

Does that block the vent like it looks?
It blocks about 60% of the vent. I never really use those vents anyways...

:D

I think the lower trim levels did get the old style wheel, to the best of my knowledge this is the wheel it came with stock.

I have the same wheel in my 91 cheyenne crew cab:rolleyes:

Neither do I. I'd delete the dash vents if I had the right stuff. Then again I want to get the AC working again.

Now for something I haven't seen anyone else do yet...

How about a '72 wheel on a 90 Blazer. Old school looks, larger diameter so i can see all the gauges no matter what.

Easy install with a couple of very small mods. I had to remove the plastic lock plate cover on the column, and I had to trim a small part of the wheel on the backside. With those two small mods the wheel dropped on perfectly. The horn works too...same spring loaded pin and stuff under the cap. The wheels may have changed shape and size over the years, but the horn mechanism hasn't changed in the 18 model years between these two wheels.

The wheel my 90 came with (base trim) is 16" diameter, the wheel from the '72 is 17 1/2" diameter.
