Never heard of that on the 700. Unless he is talking about the servo, but you swap those out and those just determine how the clutches grab. Not the shifts. I have a vette servo in mine for better holding power.

I'm going to be running a set of 5.13 gears with my 37" tires. 2000 rpm at 60mph is not bad, at all. Infact, given the size / rolling resistance etc, you'll probably want to be running closer to 2200 - 2400 rpm. I am expecting to run around 2200 rpm with my 6.5L diesel, and feel that'll be just about right. Those engine sweet spots depend on the truck being fairly stock to be truthful.

As for CB suggestions:

I've been extremely pleased with Uniden's Pro510XL CB radio. Its super simple, very small and extremely reliable. The radio in my daily driver has not been turned off since I installed it two years ago, and runs from +50C in the sun to -50C in the dead of winter. It has a very loud speaker on it compared to most CB radios (which is awesome in a straight piped 6.2L truck, haha) and has exceptional reception / transmission clarity.

Really don't think you can beat them for value either at under $100 brand new. I run mine with a steel whip (Wilson, I think?) and couldn't be happier.

Regarding the trans., I know the guy's friend installed it. This old fellow knows some stuff about trucks, but I doubt he ever was under this one to see what the adjustment was about. Perhaps I'll call him up and ask him for a run down of his described "adjustments."
 
On the TH350's and TH400's there was a bolt/screw that you could change something on and it would firm up the shifts.
Might be thinking of that.
 
I see. That would be nice... because we know it's not those transmissions, and the less the guy screwed with stuff, the better!
 
Honestly whenever someone starts telling me stuff like that and I immediately question what they are saying...I figure they're either full of **** or they don't fully know what they are talking about. Lots of myths and half truths out there in the automotive world.
 
No, but I have some muffler bearings and bumper springs in aisle 4.

So question what do you consider a hard shift. I have been in built cars that had everything you could possibly do to a car and they broke your neck when they shifted.

The only way to really verify the TV cable is set properly is to hook a pressure gauge to the trans and watch your line pressures as it shifts. I am pretty sure it has to be under load.

The way you describe it sounds pretty good to me. Thats about how my 700 shifts although under heavy load ( towing foot to the floor) I am having a 3-2 downshift issue. So not sure about that.

If you are driving it around try this a couple times as soon as it shifts into second, can it and see if it shifts down into first. It should.
 
I'm more curious about how it should feel when it shifts to first when slowing down to a stop or very slow corner.
 
When my trans shifts down to first when it is in "D" (4th) it is very smooth, you don't notice it.

When my trans is in "3" it will down shift into each gear it would need to drive at that speed, you totally feel the whole truck rock and if you aren't paying attention it will move you around in the seat.

I have a shift kit and a vette servo and some other crap in mine though.
 
I see. As I was driving today, I was starting to think my situation was fairly normal because it makes sense that if you feel it downshift into 2 or 3, then you should feel a little bump when it shifts down into first. But, perhaps I'm wrong and have an issue?
 
You won't feel first if you are driving in D. You will (might with a stock trans) feel it when you are driving in 3. At least I do in mine.
 
Aha! I like that, because I almost only drive in 3 when on the road and only D on the highway. Never been down to a slow speed in the D setting.

FWIW, my column shows P R (OD) D 2 1. So, when I say I drive in three, I mean D without overdrive. When I say I drive D on the highway, I allow it to go into Overdrive.

This has been my experience with a 700 also. In 3 it was a very harsh downshift, when off the throttle, and in OD it was hardly noticeable.
I have never heard of an adjustment on the trans other than the TV cable.
