'90 K5 - The Nevada Blazer [Post 1437: School me on alternators)

Wow I can't believe your toe was that far off. :eek1: Good thing you caught it when you did, or your tires would have a nice smooth edge on one side or some other funky worn out places. I'm surprised it wasn't death wobbling all over the road.

It shook pretty hard when braking, and it wandered pretty bad. But, no Death Wobble, which surprised me too!

Yesterday owenst7 and I had a short day of snow wheeling. Had a great time. We drove out of Verdi, NV up into the Sierras.

Just after leaving the pavement:

Once we got up beyond tracks from other folks, the snow became incredibly fluffy. It was VERY dry powder that wouldn't pack down. So, the rest of the day was slow going as we broke trail and sank in. Here's the dogs having a grand time while owenst7 broke trail.

Here's a nice view of my rig, while waiting for owenst7 to get up the hill.

We got up to almost 9000 feet into a bit over 2' of snow, and near the summit of the loop we wanted to do. We had the goal of making it over the mountains and back to Reno, but I needed to be home by 4 P.M. and the going was too slow for me to be able to do so. We went quite some distance beyond the last photo and then turned around (which took a bit over an hour to get both of our trucks turned around! :doah: )

On our way back down I spotted a gorgeous vista and had to stop for a photo.

In other news:
• My $9 stereo broke on me yesterday morning! It won't receive radio signal, and won't play anything out of the auxiliary input. :haha: This one had clearly been fiddled with when I got it, so I'm willing to buy a new one for $25 off the internet and give it another shot. I may call about a warranty, but probably not.

• I finally found the cause of my intermittent short-circuit on the ECMB fuse! The problem first presented itself on the Rubicon, and was a terrible frustration for me at that time. I spent some time Friday morning tracing wires and found that a bunch of wires go around the passenger side of the engine, and had been stuffed between the transmission dipstick and a bracket on the top of the engine. The insulation on 4 of the wires had been worn down, and was intermittently shorting the circuit, typically under heavy throttle - which makes sense because the engine would shift and thus cause the wearing down of the insulation. So I picked up some really nice crimp/solder/adhesive-shrink butt connectors and some extra adhesive-shrink tube, and went "overboard" on fixing those wires so that they'll never rub through again. I also tucked the wires out away from sharp edges. So glad to have that dealt with!

Nice photos! I think a similar thing was causing all my ign module burnouts.

The ign module wiring was mostly bare. Lots of heat shrink and waterproof butt connectors, and no more issues.

Glad you got it solved!

Dual's got a pretty good warranty.

Couple years ago at about a year old mine's faceplate started getting "intermittently glitchy". I called, they said send it in...I got a new one in the mail a few weeks later.

Went up Garson Rd. again for more wheeling. Twice, actually. These photos are from when I went for some alone time up in the mountains, I'll post some pics of my hike with my wife from yesterday later (the pics aren't on the computer yet.) These are all cell phone pics, as I forgot my camera this time.

Happy dog!

Enormous Ponderosa Pine that is bent over from high winds up in the Sierras.

Looking north toward Verdi, NV. Lovely view from where that bent-over tree is, toward the tower which would be to the right of the picture frame.

Wow!

You are a lucky guy colbystephens.
Great pics!!
It must be cool to be able to just "take off to wheel and hike". In a place as picturesque.......

I had it buried to the frame, and dug out. Prior to that pick, it was really packed with snow! :)

True! If only she knew how good she has it. :haha: She grumbles at us when we nudge her when she's sleeping. I think it's funny, but it irritates Claire that the dog is ungrateful.

a dog's life....

I always like when they grumble/talk in their sleep.. :haha:

My dog will sleep run over to the front door and bark and growl a little bit, then go lie back down and go right back to sleep. She does that like three times a day.
