He is making me want this back when he is done with it :saweet:.

Don't think I could afford to buy it back at this point though. They are probably going to want like 20k for it when finished.

he'll have that much wrapped up in the drivetrain alone...

Yeah, they usually sell them for half of what the parts cost, that's where I was getting the $20k from. I expect it will be $40-50k of parts when finished.

so is he gone cut / add / finish the thing off body wise to look like a rear 6x6 burb ?

Last thing I heard from him on body stuff was that he was going to put a short bed on and cut the cab down to wherever the truck bed ended. Basically he needed more length to accommodate the 6x6 rear and rather than trying to stretch the Burb body he is doing the truck bed over the stretched portion making one big wheel opening in the bedside and then bringing the back end up. He said he might sub out the body work stuff to a local shop, like me he does not enjoy body work. I am really interested to see how the body stuff turns out. The truck is the tailgate version instead of barn door so he could in theory just weld up the tailgate, section the back foot or whatever of body and bring that whole assembly up to behind the second set of doors. It would be pretty cool if he did that since then he would have a drop down rear window if he hooked the electric motor back up in the tailgate. I believe when he is done the actual enclosed cab portion of the Burb will still be longer than just a standard crew cab so it is definitely going to stand out as Burb origins.

I am going to the studio Wed to pick up take off parts from the Burb so I will ask him more about body stuff and get back to you with the latest plans.

I was watching this episode, before I saw this thread, and noticed they said it was a 91 3/5 ton. When he got to the description and said it was TH400 and not an 4L80 I was very confused. I know the 91 3/4 4x4 had the 4L80s in them. Turns out it's a 90 and not a 91.

Yeah, I told him it was a 90 from the get go and it says so on the title that the studio now has in their possession but Ian isn't very detail oriented so now for show purposes it's a 91 :D

kind of like the guys on carfix just did some work on a red short box and said it had a dana 60 in the front .

but the video clearly shows a early model dana 44 3/4 ton with spicer bolt on locking hubs.

I'm surprised they had a 4wd on the show, they usually stick to muscle cars

Ok, I was told the tentative plan for the body work. Ian is going to bring the rear end up to just after the original rear wheel well opening and then a short bed (possibly bobbed) is going behind that. He said he is trying for two distinct wheel wells instead of one big continuous one but I don't know if I see that happening.

Numbers wise, he said the wheel base from the front axle to the rear-most axle is around 15' and the overall current frame length is around 24'. The front two axles are getting arb air lockers and the rear-most axle is getting a factory limited slip

Yeah I don't see the two wheel openings in the rear working however it's possible I suppose.

And that's a big ass truck.

That's funny that they would put it out on the show as the wrong year. I guess in the end it really wont matter. Great project to watch that's for sure.

I called him out few years ago on some prices he was tossin out . . . he didn't have much to say or defend his point .

even with my wholesale discount from years of being in the mechanic shop biss back then I couldn't even come close to the prices he was tossin out .

these dam shows are o.k. to watch anymore . but there is so much bad info and inflated or deflated pricing from the real world.
