91 K5 krip krawler

91 Blazer for backcountry exploring/ camping and trail crawling.
I’ve been trying to dig up a build thread on any forum but i know the second generation Tacoma in the video below is driven by a gentleman in a wheel chair. They talked about the build briefly of the podcast “Snail Trail 4x4”. Looks like he has a lift of sorts in the bed... not sure how helpful this is but i figured it might help?

edit: the Tacoma was built by Candor Offroad out of Lodi Ca. They would be a great resource to talk to. Not sure if you’re on Instagram but they have a ton of pictures posted of the build on there. @candoroffroad.

Thank you. I am familiar with that lift and may end up using its stronger cousin for my power chair. I'm on the gram and followed a bunch y'all last nite after watching Blazer Bash and Full Size Invasion Moab Youtube clips

As I start looking through sellers online can someone give me a ballpark figure of what's a good deal for a used 14bff or Dana 60 front axle? Do 4.56 gears come at a premium?
What should I lookout for and run from?
Thank you for your time.

Seems like the non-dually front axles command a premium around here in Colorado. The easiest option would be finding a pair of axles from a CUCV truck as they were equipped with the D60/14bff combo that had 4.56's. The rear could have a Detroit locker already in it. Boyce equipment sells them rebuilt for $2800 for the D60 and $2200 for the 14b. That's the high end. Hillbilly Wizard sells take out axles for less than Boyce at $1850 for the D60 and the 14b w/detroit for $950. Gotta factor shipping on top of the prices from either.

Search craigslist and FB marketplace in your area and see what comes up. Finding a SRW D60 is going to save you time and money in the long run as converting a DRW back to SRW is expensive. Post up links to what you find locally and we can provide input.

In LA on Craigslist found a 14b ff 4:56 w/ locker military issue for 500. It's 1.5hrs away from me. Seems like a good deal. Thoughts?

Reading about steering box breakage is this more a problem concerning older 1st Gen Blazers or does it extend into the late 80s early 90s? Recommended Solutions besides Welding on quarter inch plate to the frame?

If it’s not already cracked the ORD brace will help. Really depends how hard you’re using the truck and what purpose. Needs the brace at a minimum.

If you are doing any off roading, put the weld on plate and the brace in. You were stating you wanted to not have trail related issues, that is one every squarebody ends up with. Mine was cracked with stock everything under it. Bought it that way. Truck was not abused before.

Do you have any more pictures you can post? I’m sure more people other than me would like to see the starting point.

Evening all,
My wheelchair upfitter wants to put actuators on the rear tailgate so I can open/close it with the push of a button. They want to replace the rear window tailgate with a regular truck tailgate as I'm putting a soft top on eventually. I can swap in a similar model year pickup tailgate as long as I have the original mounting hardware correct? Is there anything I should be aware of from those who have done it already? Thanks.

Check out Merricks garage on YouTube if you haven't already. He's got a video on it I think. He's got a build on here too.

yup, easy swap. Just need the truck gate and hardware.

Hey yall I just received a text message from a local who wants to sell me a front Dana 60 4:56 gear ratio passenger side drop kingpin for $2500.00 It is single wheel & complete with brake calipers & spring plate mounts coming out of an 1984 Chevy )K30 CUCV. From what I've seen this is pricey and I think i could find something cheaper. Am I right or should I not let this get past me? I appreciate all the feedback given.
