91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

Ok, now that the weekend is over I'm back at work getting some rest. :doah: I don't really have any update worth posting BUT that doesn't mean I haven't been nit picking on it. I haven't done anything worth taking pics of but I have put in a few hours patching the original tcase shifter hole and trying to decide on locations for the "new" seats and cable shifter.

A couple of months ago I bought some '05 Silverado front seats (cloth with built in seatbelts) and finally found a matching 3rd row Tahoe seat (I plan to use K30blazer's) bracket plans to mount them. The front seats feel a little low when flat on the floor so I've been playing with chunks of wood under the drivers seat trying to make it feel better, raising it 2" felt good.

I think I've also decided to put the tcase shifter on the right side on the tunnel right on top of where I patched the floor. I can still reach all the sticks easily and this placement will keep the path between the front seats open for rear seat access. Moving the shifter forward though may end up forcing me to buy longer cables though, yay... It's just money right...

I thought I have pics of the seats but don't, I'll post a couple tonight.

What length cables did you buy?

FWIW I can reach my JB fab sticks fine located flat on the right edge of the tunnel. I have a bench seat and a 2wd tunnel working against me too.

I bought 60" cables because that seemed to be long and the most common used. I have not cut a hole in the floor to actually mock them up yet, just estimating where the back of the tcase is it looks like it'll force a really tight turn in the cables. I could be wrong though.

60" should be fine (it's what I have) if the cable location is similar to mine on the t-case side. You can see how far forward my shifters are with the bench.

Since the first of the year our vehicles have been taking turns every month needing something. My wife sent me this pic a few min ago. Looks like my Sunday afternoon project is new coil spring spacers on her Jeep, killing me....

What brand were those?

Honestly I don't remember, they're about 7-8 years old. The lift (3") is a BDS kit but the spacers were additional because the Jeep had a nose down rake from the factory.

No big updates, just pic whoring a little.

You may have already seen some of these pics from my welding questions thread in the Garage. Here are some pic of the top chop related windshield frame welding and B pillar patching. I'm still slowly getting everything stuck together, grinding and rewelding the pinholes etc. I'm hoping next weekend to finally finish it, get it bondo'd and primed so I can move on to bigger stuff.

The inside of the B pillar, I assume the multiple layers are the "internal cage" GM referenced with the half top Blazers.

An alignment dowel made from 1" tubing for the windshield frame (old repeat since Photobucket killed everything)

I spent a lot of time staring and thinking about cutting down the original doors to match a full top set up but ultimately, for as much as I LOVE the power mirrors, they look odd on a full top so I decided to go with tube doors. This pic just shows the factory doors removed and the ORD tube doors mocked up. They'll come back off to clean and paint.

I will also be using some '05 Silverado front seats and a '00-'07 Tahoe 3rd row seat for the integrated seatbelts. I need to built brackets for all of it, using the fancy stacked wood technique I've decided I like the front seats raised 3" off the floor.

That’s all good

This thing will look tits in Moab

Sure sounds easy, only 1600 miles, 25 hrs and $400 in fuel - one way. :yikes: :doah: It is a bucket list thing though.

I'd love to go one day but it would probably be the death of my truck and me. I have ZERO rock experience so I'm sure I'd try to hit those obstacles like mud and use too much throttle. I can just imagine bringing it back home upside down on the trailer. :rotfl:

You did just fine on that ledge climb at boggs........

Never mind I was thinking of Mary....

:haha::rotfl:

True, it was her. She has a tendency to be hard on parts, if she breaks it I get to upgrade. Strategy my friend, strategy. ;)
