91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

Probably (2) 20' sticks. Eddie (Bronco) is going to see if he has any connections through Shell.

I can fix you up if you need me to. It’ll take a little doing but I know I can save you some money.

Thank you! I'll see what my buddy can do locally and if it's still high I may holler at you. :thumb:

I have a cousin in Hanceville, Al. (Harris Steel) that is in that business. He deals in secondary which just really means random lengths.

I doubt he’s delivering anything down that far but I’d expect to be able to get the steel for half of what O’Neal would charge.

If that doesn’t work out we can try something else.

Edit: I’m not looking to make anything for myself. Just looking to help out.

Speaking of history, @nvrenuf you ever gonna get done? Tucker had to give me crap because you didn’t come to BB 2018

[Stripes]I'm pacing myself.[/Stripes] :D

I am about to start putting some effort in to it. I was to take it to the Southeast shindig @chris85 suggested in April. This is part of the reason I was calling for material today, if I get the seats mounted and the cage bracing in then I'm just a windshield away from doing whatever with it.

Since I have y'alls attention....

My idea was build a rectangular frame for my rear seats out of 1"x2"x1/8" rectangular tubing. I wanted to lay it long side down so the seats would have a 2" wide surface to rest on and carry the weight (using approx 4" square plate bolted to the seat and welded to the frame). The high price has me looking for alternatives and I noticed Lowes and Home Depot carry light metal, to include 1"x1"x1/16" - would this be adequate? 1/16" seems too thin and combined with it only being 1" square it doesn't seem like it would be wide enough to carry the load well. WWCK5D?

I think 2 adult humans riding on that would deflect it in a matter of time.

Hate to see you do the work twice

Maybe some left over DOM could be repurposed?

That was my fear as well. It looks so thin when you handle but I have overkill issues so I wasn't sure if it was just me.

I thought about round tubing but I really don't have any small diameter left overs yet. I'm trying to keep the seats as low as possible for headroom which is why I'm focused on 1" materials. If I can use 1" tubing plus 1/4" plate then that 1-1/4" bracket height is almost 2" shorter than the stock claw / bar set up.

I love my Blazer and love wheeling BUT a nice 69 Camaro (especially an SS) is the ONE thing I'd give it up for. Cheap trucks are a lot easier to find and build than those old Camaros.
