91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

Pic whore moment... ( @fourwheelerjeff ) It was cold and rainy this weekend so it never rolled out of the shop for a good pic.

I spent yesterday grinding calipers, so much fun. No spacers, I just didn't like the stance (although it's still not much different).

Finally got the Blazer out of the shop and took it for a ride. I was a little worried that the unbalanced heavy tire/wheel combo might ride crappy and cause DW or who knows what but it drove nice (for what it is). It seems more boatish with more sway than with the SX’s but it’s been a while, it may be time for shocks. lol

Ok, I'm getting really close to (finally) putting shocks on the Blazer. I feel like the standard answer is going to be Bilstein so I'll ask up front - why would I need them? Why wouldn't a less expensive shock work just as well for my application? I struggle with paying $100+ each when a $60 shock may work just as well for me (although I do like the cosmetics of the Bilstein's :D).

Do's
Occasional in town street driving
Low speed trail riding
Playing in the mud (if I get lucky)

Don't's
Drive fast
Fast dirt roads
Jumping
Interstate driving

I may have access to a different fork lift but it will be a little more tricky to use.

I'll say this- my truck at this point is offroad only, but when I did the Bilstein's I was still street driving it. It made a world of difference over the Rough Country junk I had on there. I get the money thing and all, but if you are going to be even thinking about driving this on the street, I would go Bilstein.

Just to be clear, I'm not afraid of the money I'm just thinking if I can buy more toys with the same budget why not. :D The truck is a trailer queen but it'll still get driven to car shows, grab a burger on Saturday, etc but I'm not sure if it'll get street driven enough to notice the difference. :dunno: I guess I'm torn with wondering if Bilstein's are a real answer or the generic response like "put 52's on it" or "LS swap it".

Ugly question for you... Do you sell Bilstein's? I don't see them on your site.

Another question for the crowd to groan over.... While I understand that shock tech has progressed beyond factory quad shocks, I love the look. Can you get shocks that will work together in order to keep quad shocks without having to buy a tune-able / rebuildable shock?

I would think that better shocks would be noticeable on a fair amount of the trail as well, not just street driving.
And I prefer to take advantage of the technology advancement, at least as much as I can afford.
I understand spreading the budget as best as possible, but will you be more content with an improvement in the ride, vs saving the money on the shocks? I am betting yes, since I don't regret buying either set of Bilstiens.

I don't even want the cheap shocks on my daily, I even put Bilsteins on my trailblazer when I had it, stock replacement at least. They actually have some dampening control vs just being there with a little resistance.

The Ranchos I had on my truck previously just pretty much sucked, bounced around like Tigger on a pogo stick.

I think the blue/yellow shock is ugly on most vehicles, except maybe near Ann Arbor Michigan, but I put them on because of the function.

If you use dual shocks it may just get stiff, depends on the shock.

I'm with you, I know Bilsteins are great shocks but I can't bring myself to spend that kind of money. I don't care for a super plush ride otherwise I wouldn't be driving a truck. I think I have Tuff Country shocks on the rear of my blazer and they work fine. I run Monroe gas charged shocks on all my trucks at work, they are yellow. The rear ones for a '99-04 super duty are 12" travel shocks and just might get used on my junk next time I need shocks.
