91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

@Wes Harden I wish, just a small fenced off easement.

There is a fairly new little mud park that’s local, there’s a good chance I’ll test the new shoes there. :woot:

I bought some Trailready beadlocks from @fourwheelerjeff and @83ChevyK5Blazer was nice enough to pick them up on his move from Wyoming to Mississippi (thank you both!). The wheels were in good shape with minor surface rust, since I made good money on the sale of my Weld wheels I had them stripped and powder coated. The irony here is that I generally really do not like black wheels (Imo, overplayed) and I had the opportunity to change colors but I stayed with black to eventually match the bumpers, cage, etc..

The beadlock rings needed some love, typical dull bare aluminum. They almost looked like gray primer. I went to YouTube University and took a couple of courses in quicky polishing and I'm happy with the finished product, shiny but not show.

I finally got the wheels back right before New Year's Day, I'm really happy with the finish.

I've been reading up on beadlock rings and coning so I got some anti coning spacers from Trailready.

I also ordered a plastic dash cover from Coverlay to try and pretty up my BUSTED up dash pad, the cover glues on around the perimeter. It fits pretty good, it has a few places where the edge is 1/8" or so short but they are in areas you wont typically see. For $150 ( vs $400+ for an aftermarket pad) I'm really happy with the look.

I haven't installed it yet, I'm waiting in hopes of the remote possibility of painting the Blazer first.

got a link?

Good to hear on Coverlay. I have 2 I have to install. I think they look better than the last dash I put in the M1008 and cheaper.

I read and watched a bunch of YT videos on the installation and the only complaint that was consistent was that the RTV included is barely enough. It’s a no name tube but it says it’s 500* RTV so I ordered some clear 500* Permatex in a caulk gun size tube. Only glue the edges, I think if you glued the middle it would create waves in the cover.

Also, I don’t know about other colors but the blues are different from OE. The light blue is a pastel baby and their dark blue is a tad darker than OE but close enough.

I got gray for my 89 and maroon for my 79. Both colors seem correct.

My last new toy, a driveshaft I can drive.

My old driveshaft was one I had bought used from a guy parting a project, it was a High Angle Driveline built shaft with the huge 42º CV on one end and a 1410 joint with a 38º flange on the other end. The problem is the CV is from some type of agg application (I think it's a "cornay" joint) so it's not sealed, it needs to be greased just about every time you drive it - fine for a front driveshaft but not for a rear). I got tired of the constant maintenance and everything on the underside of the Blazer getting nasty from the grease "spray" so I ponied up for a Super Duty CV.

When I cut the old CV off I found out the tubing is 3" x .120, bonus points!

Old H.A.D. 42º CV (note the 2 rings on the center piece)

Old vs new, note the size of these compared to the paint can behind them.

Clutch Products did it, gave me some strange looks too. lol

They gave it some weird looks and wanted to know what it came out of. Once I told them it was an old hunting truck that didn’t see much street time they seemed to relax. I was really expecting them to buck on the new part since I didn’t buy it from them but they never questioned that, just lots of guff about the tube being straight, etc.
