'94 Dodge service truck DD/Tow rig build

So I've been telling myself I need to start a build thread on my k10 and catch up on the last couple years but I haven't had the time to do it yet. So for this build I'll start one right off the bat and try to keep it as updated as possible.
With the help of a friend I scored this '94 regular cab long bed (with service box) 2500 dodge with a 12v cummins, 5 speed and it's even a 4x4 for only $2,200! Heck it even has a set of new Toyo tires on it!

So the plan is to fix the sheetmetal, get it painted one color and fix a couple odds and ends that it needs then start the real work. I'm ditching the rack but planning on keeping the service bed for now, it's pretty solid and has a ton of storage. It runs and drives 10000x better than it looks and tracks down the highway straight as an arrow at 70+mph. Oh, and it only has 184,000 miles on it.

So tomorrow the plan is fix the fuel shut off solenoid (which I actually think is the blue power wire feeding it) so you can shut it off with the key. Cut the muffler off, change the trailer harness over to a 7 way rv style so it matches my trailer and install my Prodigy P3 brake controller.
OH! and as if that wasn't enough goodness for $2,200 I was cleaning out the interior and my dad joked and said shoot, fire up the AC it's getting hot. Well sure as heck, the freaking AC blows ice cold still. :eek1:

Here's the only picture I have of it. It's the worst side, the other side is clean.... well cleanish.

Nice!! I just got a 97 Dually reg Cab 4x4 5-speed Flatbed we can both be doing build threads of our dodges on a chevy website lol

Got a good amount of work done today.

I messed with the fuel shut off solenoid for a while but still couldn't get it working. I'll deal with that later.

I pulled the front d-shaft and tightened up the nut holding the front output yoke on the TC which took care of a rattle/vibration so that's cool.
While I was down there I noticed a bolt that looked loose between the tranny and the bellhousing so I got a light and sure enough the two bolts on the driver's side were backed almost all the way out. I thought to myself good thing there's two on the other side, so I slid over to make sure the passenger side ones were tight and they were GONE. :doah:
So I got new bolts and put them on with some lock washer.

I ran a new cable tying the two batteries together and cleaned up a bit of the factory wiring that was corroded on the driver's side battery.

Then I went to town checking/filling fluids. I'll do a complete fluid flush and fill with synthetics but I cant afford it right now so for the next couple weeks I wanted to make sure it was all full. The tranny was a little low, nothing bad. The TC was about 2 quarts low so it's topped off now and the engine was about 2 quarts low.

Oh and some junk fell out from underneath too.

i'd like to see a picture of you're replacing those parts with..........very cool thread too. i'm die hard Chevy, but i like that motor. i'd love to build a '92 or so dedicated work truck, with some reasonable modifications. got any pics of the bed and compartment areas? i remember like yesterday when that body came out......it was a bold move by Dodge.

what kind of MPG and kind of driving do you do?

Hey you owe me copyrights on that pic. Looks like a good start. I can't believe he let it go for that price. I was very shocked when I went to look for it and found it on the cornerish foe sale.

Forgot to mention I was digging around under the hood and it has a Pac Exhaust brake on it. I need to get that wired up, should be fun having slow races coming down the hill with my trailer not having to smoke my brakes. :waytogo:

I'll snap some pics of the service bed, it's not all that pretty right now though. :)
It does have a couple toolboxes and drawers in it though.
I haven't put many miles on it so I don't know what kind of MPG. I do highway to work and school and that's about it. Very little around town driving except on saturdays for a parts run here and there.

Everybody seems to be finding smokin deals on cummins powered rams, a friend of mine just bought a 99 with the 24v and an auto for $1100. needs a rear axle and probably every steering component replaced though.

So when is the KDP kit going in?

This weekend. I'm going to tear the front end apart and replace the fender/door on the passenger side and de-grease everything under the hood while I'm at it. Stupid little KDP job is going to turn into a week long clean up and body work fiasco I can already tell. :D

Yup hate those stupid little jobs that take forever to complete.

Nice score man.

Sell your K3500 finally?

Yeah I sold it locally. Not quite what I owed but within a couple hundred bucks so I was glad to do it and move onto a different setup. I paid cash for this truck and even though I plan on putting a decent chunk of change in it at the end of the day no truck payment rocks. :woot:

Well it was definitely one of those projects. Took longer than I expected but at the end of the day the KDP is tabbed, the front of the engine is cleaned up and everything is torqed to spec with loc-tite so it's good peace of mind.
Good thing I did it too, with 185,000 on the clock it had started to back out.

I hear yah in a few weeks I'll be doing injectors in my lb7 dmax :(

Ok here's my sorry attempt at body work. It's not great but I think it's way better than before. A whole lotta slide hammering and a little bit of bondo and here's what I came up with...
