96 s10 blazer, getting a 5.3L

pic of the whole top before I welded in the gussets in the middle. I also put the gussets from poly performance with the 3 holes in them on all 4 sides of the main "t"

Well.....????? :deal:

Looking for feedback on how the ORIs felt in Moab.... I saw one photo of you on your side in what looked like Hells Gate or maybe Escalator???

I thought the ORIs weren't supposed to "push off"?? LOL! :haha:

Seriously though, feedback would be great.

They worked great! Yeah that was on escalator. I went up the first time and was to far to the left, which raises the the front drivers tire sky high on long wheel base rigs. So I cam back up and Stephen Watson was spotting me. He told me something to the effect of go over right as far as you are comfortable. Then he as I flop sideways he says I didn't know you where that comfortable :dunno:. Pretty funny really, we where having a good time. I could see 3 of my MT/Wy guys rigs with winches up in front of me, had them all standing there and Watson too. Figured it was a pretty safe time to push it a little and play around. Didn't even break the side mirror!
Anyways the ori's where awesome. No push off climbing or side hilling. The wife thought they rode great over bumps. Norby and I came out of Prichette doing 45-50mph down through the sand and smaller bumps to the pavement with the tires still aired down to 6 and 4 psi. I would just drive it in to the corners and stay on it and I wasn't getting much body roll, very comfortable even for the wife. The kids just kept saying go faster! I was running 5" of up travel, and 11" of down. I had 150psi in the lower chambers and I think around 290 in the uppers. Would have to ck what I wrote down again on the uppers. I also added a front suck point with the winch. I never felt I really needed it when climbing. With it though I could push the side hills a little more and played with it when crawling and climbing and could sometimes pick up a little more traction. I did not use it in the big hot tub, or or the Hellderodo waterfall and it felt fine. In the hot tub I was starting with my back tires up the hill and fronts just in the bottom. Double low in second, and third. It soaked up the initial hit of the wall and I was able to drive through it without and weird hops or anything. I high marked it out of the wy/mt guys. There was just to much mud/water in the bottom of it. Norby said I would of had it if it wasn't for the mud water, he would have too. Overall, I would buy them again in a heart beat. Hopefully be putting them on the back next winter. This one I'm just going to keep wheeling instead of working on stuff.

Looks like I will be heading down to Powell the 24-25 to go play and get the computer dialed in better. It ran good, but died twice on me and didn't want to start right away. Ck engine light came on randomly too, then would go off. I am more familiar with the terrain down there where I have had my truck before. So i can run some of the same lines and get a better feel for them. Also try some new lines Norby and Clint are running that my front end would have fought before. :D I should have a pretty good feeling for them after that.

Cool feedback....

Any idea what you truck is weighing these days? The only thing that concerns me is that with full-size rigs we are pushing pretty close to the upper design limits of what the ORI is designed to handle.

I spoke with Blacksheep over on Pirate (ORI vendor) and he mentioned that they have done some special-order versions with an external reservoir to give them more weight-carrying ability. At this point, I just can't decide if that is overkill or if it's the sensible thing to do.

I think the concern is that when the truck gets too heavy, the amount of pressure you need to run just to hold the weight of the truck in the air gets too high and you either end up running in the 2nd damping stage (more stiff) or maybe the amount of pressure you need between the upper and lower just makes the whole thing too stiff??? :dunno:

I've still got time to figure it all out, just doing a little thinking out loud. There aren't a lot of fullsize guys to talk with about this..... Shawn had a set but broke them so fast he was of no use.... :haha:

I used to think mine was fine until I started really playing with the suck down and it does make a huge difference. I saw one of the pictures someplace of you on the waterfall and it looks like the front is completely pushed away and the front tires are barely touching the face.
Mine feels the same way, until I suck the winch down and it's night and day better.
On the rock pile I was lifting the left front and in general just wallowing around until I sucked the front down. Then it felt stable and I was able to go right up.

I think once you get the feel for it you'll enjoy the ability to suck the front down and stabilize the vehicle.

I am hoping to weigh it down in Powell on the 24th. I ordered from Blacksheep too, he is a great vendor. Very knowledgeable and willing to talk shop on the ori's to help you get them dialed. As for the reservoirs I think it also has to do with your use. For the slower stuff I would think they would be fine with out. If you are planning on racing then probably not. I went with the 5/8" bolt to try and keep some more strength also. Norby has beat on his pretty good, I feel like I gave mine a pretty good run, nothing crazy. Mine will get beat on more in Powell when I'm not trying to wheel for 4 days in a row, and also not have the whole family in the rig. Will let you know after that.

Thats good to know. Do you suck it down to the bumps, or just till it settles down? Norby and I are both new to the front suck down deal, just take some time to figure it out and get it dialed in. That is one of my favorite things about blazer bash, running trails and being around you ORD guys to pick up knowledge and learn new things.

When I had front bumps, bypass shocks have the bump in them now, I sucked it down all the way to them most of the time. It's really a feel thing though, there will be times that you just hold it at ride height so the axle can articulate some and others like the big hot tub that you just suck it down alot to keep the front way down.

I usually just get it snug or just barely loose then play around and add or release tension depending on how it is behaving and what I think it needs.

BTT for more feedback on your Powell trip (last weekend, right?) and ORI feedback (of course!) :waytogo:

Things didn't go so well but not Ori related. I'll let Scott tell the story. There are some pics on the powell club website. I'll post video of it later.

Be sure to visit the Smittybilt facebook and vote for Scott (under my name) and joe coombs's videos so they can maybe win a winch!

Well the powell trip was kind of a bust for me. We got the tune dialed d in better Friday night. Then drove maybe 1 mile over to the first obstacle and started playing a little. Soon as I put the front end up in the air, the guys told me to shut it down. Say I have a rod bearing going out. Figure its from being on my side in escalator. We still had a great weekend. Weighed my pig and it was 66?? Can't remember exactly. That is trail ready full of fuel, me in it. Just minus the wife and kids. Was only 80 lbs heavier to the rear. I will post up some other pics later today from Moab.

Found out last night that i spun #2 rod bearing, #1 isn't looking to good either. Crank is done.. Found a new tbi motor though and will be swapping my top end over
