97 King Cab DS-Ton build - Rock Jock 60 and shaved 14

Wow that's a lot tighter. That looks good.
Thanks! When I slapped that bumper together 3 years ago, it was "temporary". Plus the original intent of the S-10 was something more like what I use the Silverado for, so I'm just making the S-10 work as good as it can in the rocks until I get the Sonoma built.

I got the steering together finally, however now my tie rods are too short... The heims have about 5/8" of threads engaged in the tie rods, not quite enough. I ordered new tube adapters so I can make new tie rods, but these will be fine for now.

I also bent a couple tubes for the bumper, now I just need a couple supports for those tubes and the bumper's done.

The bumper is mostly done, I have new turn signals incoming, I still need to make a new crossmember/winch brace between the frame rails and tie the frame rails into the winch plate better, but it's looking good! I even picked up a new mini light bar for it, which fits perfect.

I only have a half day tomorrow, so hopefully I can finish up the front end so we can concentrate on the rear end the rest of the weekend.

We made some good progress today. Here's what the rear of the truck looked like first thing this morning.

Then we cut a bunch of stuff off...

Then we welded some different stuff back on.

There's a lot of finishing work to do, but the majority of the fab work is done. I'm hoping to get it finished up in the next couple days, we're taking it out for a shakedown next weekend.

I had to work today, so I didn't get as much done as I would have liked to, but we still made progress (Amber kicked butt today). Everything is painted and the only thing preventing a test drive is replacing all the bulbs with LEDs and spooling the winch line (under load). I really like the way everything turned out!. I'll try to finish it up tomorrow and get some shots in the daylight.

Damn, that's a sweet setup with the rear done that way.

I think I'm done with the fab work, and I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. I went into this just hoping to make it work better in the rocks, but I think it looks so much better now, plus I think I lost 300-400lbs of steel. I really wish I would have gotten a before and after weight. I'm excited to take it on some trails where I got denied due to approach/departure angles.

I really like how from the front or rear you can see the entire tire, nothing blocking it from getting on the rock/obstacle. Such a huge difference from before.

I took it for a quick test drive, the CPS in it is shot, wouldn't rev past 4000 and it was missing pretty bad by then. Amber replaced the pigtail again wiuth an AC Delco part, so maybe it will be better... Who knows. I'll put a new CPS in it tomorrow and take it for another test drive.

Well, I did some more testing today, swapped some crank position sensors out, took it for a test drive, and it still isn't running right. I swapped in every spare I had (cap, rotor, ignition module, coil, CPS and MAP sensor) and it still didn't want to rev fast and seemed down on power.

I finally broke out my old fuel pressure gauge from the Blazer and hooked it up inline right after the filter. The pump wouldn't build enough pressure to start the truck (0psi on the gauge), I started it with ether and the pump finally got primed, but died off quickly when heavy throttle was applied.

We picked up a new pump this evening and we'll install it tomorrow, hopefully this is the end of the BS engine issues for at least a few days.

The S-10 did a happy dance in the garage!

New fuel pump didn't fix the problem (although it was better). I started looking around and the frame flex/bent bed had pinched off the fuel lines. I moved the lines around a bit and now it runs great again!

My fuel pressure gauge is still showing low (42psi at WOT), but it runs great. I'm not sure if there's something wrong with my fuel pressure gauge or my fuel pressure regulator, but it's good enough to take it out for a test run this weekend.

Sup BB,

Is that 4.3 the "spider injector" set up? I'm sure you are aware those suck but tend to fail and cause a rich state. Sounds like some of what you say but you would know right away it's running rich.

Did the frame "fix" at BB become permanent or did you happen to do something else to it that I didn't catch? Here's hoping it was just the lines.

I upgraded from CPI to MPFI when I built the engine, so that shouldn't be an issue and it isn't running rich.

The frame has been fixed multiple times, at least twice at blazer bash so you'll have to be more specific on your question
