97 sas'sy Sierra/ 80 Cheep 10: tales of a phat block

Of the searching I have done about end play in distributors resulted in detonation/ to much advance. But its not a det rattle, or bad fuel.

Just some sort of engine rattle thats intermittent. Hard to explain i guess with out actually seeing it in person.

Im really not to worried about a rod letting go, after all its an older motor thats been well abused. So its a matter of time of when/if something lets go I guess.

Next time it warms up I might mess around with the distributor/try another I have laying around here.

What about a loose bolt or bracket? Alot of times the most complicated problems have the simplest solutions. I had a rattle I couldnt figure out for years, switched motors and trannys for reasons other and slightly related to this, ended up being a screwdriver stuck in the fender.

I've had a piece of gravel stuck between the catalytic converter and heat shield on one of my trucks for like 10 years and it rattles like crazy the whole time it's idling. Drives me nuts but I'm too lazy to take it all apart and fix it.

Got a new fan module tossed in the other weekend.

If I recall, it wouldnt climb up onto the grass on the other side(silly open diffs)

It was all fun and games till I filled the motor full of water, its never been the same since :doah:

I can't imagine why.

Dude you must be real tall. If your truck has 8" of lift and 38s, you're making it look short in the picture of you in front of it. If I stood up next to it, I bet the hood would be up to my neck almost. :haha:

Last I checked im 6 foot tall :pimp:

On a unrelated note, ive taken to the hobby of rc's. I now have a Blackfoot, Traxxas Rustler, Slash 4x4, and just added a used wraith yesterday. I think I have a problem :doah: :haha:

Couple pics from this mornin:

The wraith rips

But the slash flies

I can't see the pics.

RC cars are cool though. I used to have some RC rockcrawlers and I loved playing with them. I even built a 25' long rock garden in an empty lot beside my house to drive them in. Then I came home one day and the city had come by while I was at work and cleared the lot of everything, including my rocks. (sad face goes here).

I guess you looked taller in that pic. That makes sense though because I have a 4" lift and I'm 5'8", so my hood comes to about the same place on me as yours does on you. :haha:

Put a few miles on the truck, I notices it's pushing gear oil out the breather on the back. I've never seen that before, guess ill add that to the list of things to look at

You may have a little too much gear oil in there. That will make it whip up and work it's way out the tube sometimes. I can't believe you still have that much snow on the ground. Wow.

Weird that it started doing it a year later IMO. Maybe it got some water in it!

Yeah I've never seen this much snow still on the ground at this time of year

That first sentence makes no sense to me. :haha:

It's been cooler than normal for this time of year down here too. Like in the 40s. Hahaha. I was watching the news one day this month and it showed that the record high on that day for my town was set last year (2012) at 89 degrees. I remember it getting hot early last year. This year we had some 80* weather in January (highs normally in the fifties) and now it's cooling off again. So weird.
