97 sas'sy Sierra/ 80 Cheep 10: tales of a phat block

Guess I have selectable death wobble :D

Been doin some truck stuff with it lately, haulin parts and what not. And guess what came back like a boss......death wobble!!

Went through the front end again, tightened steering box(was a lil loose). That helped a bit.

One of my truck buddies was saying it could be the lower kingpin bearing causing it??? Everythings tight when theres no weight on it, but the bearing could possibly be worn/moving when the weight is applied to it correct??

Steering stabilizer seems on the weak side as well, maybe a good time to upgrade to a dual set up and see what happens.

Tires havent been rotated in a couple years, so its prob time for that too.

It seems to do it primarily between 20-40 mph randomly.

Forgot to add, checked U bolts, the drivers side was loose. So i tightened em, but didnt have time for a test bag :doah:

The infamous death wobble, scares the sh** out of you the first time it happens. Especially when you are moving at a decent speed. Hope you get it figured out man.

You know I shimmed my kingpin springs down just a touch, cured it forever, have never had it since.

I found some nice shims to use and kind of played with it. I don't care if people think its a band aid fix.

It fixes it. I did it 3 or 4 times so I used just enough shims to make it go away, but not to many to put undue pressure on anything.

It had DW with the ten bolt, not as bad.

I had the king pins shimmed before the new spring n bushings.

Picked up a Big Dick Supsension dual stabilizer kit today :haha:

Prob won't throw it on till after the ck5 party next weekend :thumb:

It wont fix your problem, but it will prevent them in the future. Buy grade 8s for your steering box that are long enough to put locknuts or a lock washer and a nut on. Loctite the bolt into the box, crank it down as tight as you can, then loctite the locknut/washer nut combo on behind that. I will bet any dollar it will never back off again. I did that and I forget to check them as they have not came loose in 7 years. I also usually use double u-bolt nuts as I am lazy and dont feel like checking bolts when I can hardly remember to put gas in the truck.

Got back home for a couple days, got the Big Dick Dual stabilizers on tonight. They do hang down a bit but not to bad. If I elongate some Of the mounting holes I can rotate it up a bit more. Took it for a test bag, seems to work a bit better  as in no death wobble. But my luck it will be back :haha:

For some reason this just struck me as funny. :haha::haha:

Do they also reduce bumpsteer I wonder?

:doah:I had a 88 k5 with 33s and 31s, it had a rancho dual SS kit on it. That thing was a pita to steer. Had absolutely no bump steer either. So that one actually did something.

Also the stock stabilizer was toast, maybe just a single was needed? Oh well :haha:

When I priced one out from my cousins work, he's like I got one In stock. It's a big dick suspension!!! Never heard that before, I thought it was pretty epic :pimp:

We have some big 3-5 inch nuts at work for assembly, I was always gonna weld a set on :haha:

You should totally do that. Just watch out when you're up under the truck working on it. If you were to bump your head on those things... :doah:

Took it for a spin to town this morning, no death wobble!! Not a hint of it or nothing. That is all.

Awesome. :thumb:

As I side note, I just found out that Big Dick Suspesion is what BDS stands for. They make some of the best stock-style lift kits out there.

BDS= Big Dick Suspension. Who knew? :dunno:
