97 sas'sy Sierra/ 80 Cheep 10: tales of a phat block

Had to re mod my twin stick to clear the seat. Finished shifters, tossed front d/s on it. Gave it a test bag.

Looks like I gotta clearance the cv a bit.

:doah::doah::zombie4: Dahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! I was thinking you were talking about the joint at the t-case for some reason, not the one at the axle.

What are you going to do then?

I`m still trying to figure out why it needs to be clearanced, I`ve done three blazers and one k10 with 4 inch springs and never touched the front drive shaft. :dunno:

Looks like your truck is higher than my 77 is now but neither one of them is 4 inch.

You didn`t install the front diff upside down did you!! :haha::haha:

I think it depends on what length your driveshaft is and how high up your t-case is more than anything.

My 83 was fine with the 4"/zero rates. 84 k5 was fine.

This 80 is not fine. Looking at it, it appears almost the driveshaft is different around where the cv is. But I'm going based off memory here.

I also run a single cardan joint on the k20. It started as a stock shaft off a 88-98 style 4x4. It took a bit of clearancing though.

This truck did sit high to begin with compared to most of the stock type rigs I've have fwiw. It's about 3" over stock right now. Drag link angle is actually pretty good as well.

Maybe I should install the diff upside down.....it'll fix the angle. Oh wait :doah:

Maybe I should check mine again...I does make some funny noises under there once in a while! :haha:

If you did the front and the rear like that it would work...wouldn`t it! :haha:

Opps Andy beat me to it!! :doah::haha:

Your 1980 has an NP205, I assume your newer trucks had NP208's? The NP205's have really short front drive shafts, which in turn lead to a steeper angle.

Ground a bit off the shaft, clears like a boss now.
Ran tcase breather and trans breather into the cab.

Backed timing off a bit and tweaked the idle up. Got er runnin a bit smoother.

By the time the snow is gone, you'll have a hard time deciding which truck to wheel on any given day. Or you could do like me and make sure you have at least two 4x4s running at all times - one to get stuck/broke down, and the other to extract/tow the other one home. Or have two broken/stuck trucks. The possibilities are endless.

Always gotta have choices......this one won't see hard wheelin. Just mild trailing and truck duties.

No real pic worthy updates.

Fixed a few wiring issues on the fuel tank/gauge. Figured out why the gauge went wonky. Must have bumped the fuel tank switch onto the non existent tank :haha:

Swapped in the 80 PSI oil pressure gauge out of a gmc 7000 I had laying here. Built a cover to hide the vent on the high Sierra gauge bezel.

Unbolted box/removed bumper. Slid box back, ready to start on cab corners.

Cut tranny hump out/started modding it for the twin stick. Need the shifter boot I ordered so I can finish it up.
