I guess that I have been slackin' a bit. Not much to show lately though. :doah: Been pretty crazy busy with a ton of frozen water pipe breaks in homes this year. Add on I was sick as hell for about two weeks and then Christmas, I haven't even been in the garage lately.

I did get this past weekend to do a little welding, but unfortunately, it wasn't on the rig. We have been doing a big backyard remodel. Pool shed, gazebo, pergola and an outdoor kitchen.

We have been through the outdoor kitchen a couple times in the past, starting with wood on one, steel studs on another, till we finally realized a fully welded structure was the way to go. No twisting, no shrinking,,,,blah blah.

With that, I had to pull the rig out of the garage this past weekend to gain a little floor area to build this thing. Anyone that has had their rig on the garage for years can tell ya, once it comes out, it's like an entire new feeling in the garage. Actual room to move around felt pretty weird all weekend.

Anyways, here are the shots that Dean was talking about. Nothing great or new. The rig does look pretty funny with the rollers on it though.


The beginning of the outdoor BBQ with sink and a two burner. Hopefully I can get the back bar rail done tonight as I wait for the actual units to come in from Costco.

That's all I gotz, Dean. I know that you're bored up in your Igloo, but hopefully this will suffice for a week or two. :pimp: :popcorn:
 
Nice. I think the BBQ needs more triangulation though. Maybe a tow point or two as well. :)

Seriously though, I'd enjoy seeing pics of that when its done. I've always wanted to do something like that in my backyard.

Cool to see what the blazer started out like years ago...will be quite something to see it that color again.

And yeah I am bored...need to but some gas in Rat Bag and get stuck in the snow. :doah:

I'll take a couple pics of the progress as we go along. The homeowners are still undecided on what to put on this. As it stands, slate top and stucco bottom. I hate the idea of stucco, but it is what it is.

It really is not that heavy....yet. I built the entire thing out of .090 1x2. Strong enough that it doesn't bend or blow through when ya weld it, but light enough to move around.

I might have to make it one piece though. The way it stands the "L" splits into two pieces, but I may have a plumbing issue there and need to cut some of it out. :doah:
 
Right on!

Stucco!! :doah: Should be SS! I hate stucco, plus its a bitch to clean. Yuck!
But I want to see it finished should be cool no matter what goes on it. :thumb:

It's not even close to coming out with the old worn out swampers. It's little rollers every time. :rolleyes:


Now that the rig is back in the garage, I spent a little time this weekend getting after it.

It was all about getting the front seats finally mounted. I ended up getting the bars all welded up and back in by the end of the night. Believe it or not, but everything went back together fairly awesome after welding. I was pretty scared that it was going to twist all up like some spaghetti noodles during the welding.

Not many pics. Everything will come back out for the mount to the undercage and the console.

Here's what we got.


Being able to flip this onto the work bench for final welding sure was nice. :pimp:

As Eric will see, :D this was the least amount of tubes I could use to fab this thing up. :thumb:

I'll get more pics when it comes out to show the tie in and such.

You guys are classic. I make a cool seat mount thingy and you want outdoor kitchen pics. :haha:

Not a lot of progress on this thing, It's currently sitting on my car trailer under my carport at home. The homeowner is one of these really smart guys that has no clue what he wants and every time we suggest a great plan, he goes the other way.

The pergola is pretty much done over there along with the Gable Gable structure next to it. This guy wants to stucco everything. :doah: Whatever, the crew and I are kinda over it. Can you imagine not clipping the corners on your pergola joists??? Not our choice, but c'mon...:confused:

Anyways, here's whats sitting on the car trailer waiting for him to get in stuff and make the final decisions on placement.








Hopefully I can get this back in the garage within the next week or so, finish the fab work for the doors, sink, BBQ, burner, outlets, dogeared ends on the bar top, cutout for the two pergola posts that sit in the bar top, kick rail's and so on.

Thanks Dean. Here are a couple pics from this weekend.


Started working on the console and shifter. The thing kinda kicked my butt a little. Kept falling apart and was generally frustrating. But at last, I have something that I can build off of. actually took a long time just to get to here.















The beginning of the top sheets. Should look cool if I can pull it off. :popcorn:





13 1/4" in the front, to 12" in the back. That was a lot of fun. :confused:

 
I still remember when you thought you could not even weld and now master fabricator. What are those notched thingys called that connect your cage together. I think I am going to be needing some in the near future.
 
What's the plan after you are done with all the tube work Mike...take it all apart and send pieces to the powder coater, or are you painting at home?

Thanks for the kind words, but I don't see myself in that fashion. That label belongs to Kurt, Rene, John (KellyJohn) or someone that has done this day in and day out. Someone that actually knows how something should go together and why.

I'm just a guy in a small garage that has had A LOT of help from his friends on the interweb building his idea of a pretty cool rig. :bow: The welding has been getting better over the years. The only real difference now from then is, I know when I'm not feeling it and I don't weld. I'll save it for the next day when I have a clear head and hopefully can pull off a nice bead.

Tube disconnects is the name for the thingys. :D

Here are a couple places. TMR has the best ones that I have seen, but I should be getting my shipment of two WOD discos by the end of the week so I can finish the rear seat cage.

The beginning of the soda holders and arm rest/ storage area. There will be two small boxes that come around each side of the e-brake. I need a little more depth for the cup holders as the shifter linkage is just under the drivers side. Those will be all roundy round, too. :wink1:
