Abusfullofnuns Suburban going long in the rear

In true Abusfullofnuns fashion.....I've started a small job that's not turning out to be as simple as I'd hoped.

I decided to install the ORD steering brace before I end up needing the frame repair kit. No sweat right?

All was going well, upper brace installed no problem. I had to remove the trans cooler for access.

Then I went to test fit the main brace. Hmmm, something seems to be in the way of the end of the brace. External trans filter is using the hole I need. I guess it's time to relocate. I didn't like how vulnerable to damage it was anyway. One of the few questionable decisions by the PO.

I need a new 1/2" drill bit, so completion will have to wait. It never goes as quick as I plan.

Any issue with mounting the filter sideways? Other than spillage during filter change?

Man I think it get it back on the block if it were mine

It's for the trans right before the cooler.. Not sure there is room for it too far away from the front crossmember. I could move it up to the pass frame rail. It would increase the length of the run for the external cooler and it would increase the elevation change. That was my reasoning for leaving it on the xmember.

Forgot to update the thread, but got the ORD steering brace installed. I didn't move the trans filter very far and kept it vertical for now.

I did notice there was an oil cooler hiding between the radiator and condenser. It's looped together, so I assume it was some sort of factory oil cooler.

Since I was on a roll, I reworked the shift linkage with much success. Seems to be much smoother and doesn't feel like it's in a bind. Pumped some grease in the u joints while I was at it.

I am thinking it's time to pull the dash off for repair/wrap. I'd like to have a look underneath.

Dash is out and I am in the middle of repairing a bad case of the crumbles. I still need to apply some epoxy and repaint and texturizing.

Supposed to be picking up some buckets out of a early 2000s Corvette to install up front, but haven't been by to grab them. I think they should be relatively easy as they are pretty thin compared to other GM seats.

Lots of stuff waiting to be installed. My long term plans are somewhat iffy for gear reduction, so not wanting to do driveshafts twice is holding up suspension and steering work.

I'll post plans and a parts list later this weekend. I'm ready to get motivated and get this thing closer to done.

Is this weekend the weekend you were referring to three months ago?

Thanks for the reminder, I think. I haven't made a ton of progress. I've been putting 200 miles a week on it. I've had a bunch of trips this summer and fall that have delayed progress.

Though, I've had to do a few maintenance items.

The rear cargo door latch stopped working, so I replaced both latches on one door.

In addition to that, the hood stopped opening correctly. I bent the mechanism back based on info from ck5. I also noticed that the cable was stretched, so I've got that on order from LmC.

I replaced a power steering pump and box in the last year, but the pump took a shit this last week. In the meantime, the box has gotten sloppy. Both parts were from local parts houses, so they'll get swapped. It probably makes sense to go ahead and swap it for a 2wd unit and do the crossover install.

I've got the arm, knuckle, drop pitman arm, and a slightly bent tie rod. I'm not certain the tie rod wasn't massaged for clearance in the previous application. At the same time as the crossover, I'll install warn premium hubs and Yukon super joints.

I need to get the rebuild kit for the super joints, and the front end parts on the way. The real hold up is getting the drag link built. I need to figure out that part and get this done and move on.

I've made the decision to use the Tuff Country HD springs(still need to order). Since I'm mall crawling and forest service road cruising for the most part, I'll probably go with small lift springs in addition to the shackle flip and b-52 kit. I'd like to run 37/40s instead of the 35s on it. I've already got those parts as well as FUSH. I haven't decided on spring length yet. I'm going with the 7000 series Bilsteins for shocks. I need to order the shackle bolts, some ubolts, and a bunch of other crap. I think I've found a flat spot to work on the truck fairly close to home. I plan to take advantage of some pto around xmas.

Some progress has been made on the interior, but that progress led to bigger plans. I've got some weatherstripping on the way, and I'm going to work my way around the truck replacing all the rubber and felts. I'll add to the sound dampening st the same time. The doors haven't been touched yet.

Didn’t mean to sound like a ****, I like your build and it looks like you’ve got a lot going on, looking forward to more updates

:woot:

Well, I HAVE been moving slow. @handloader90 sold me all his shit, then moved. Rebought almost all of it and is installed and riding. I'm still here with my thumb up my ass.

Truthfully, r&r-ing the trans/transfer case and installing the TNA crossmember and mounts on my gravel pad hasn't motivated me to get busy with the rest. Now that I've got a spot to do it, it's about time to start knocking out sections. I needed that flat piece of concrete to be able to align the axles during the flip and b-52 install.

Nothing exciting, but fixed some minor annoyances.

I replaced the above mentioned hood latch cable. Took about ten minutes, so it was fulfilling. I did find my first piece of shoddy work from a previous owner. They had a broken sheathing on the hood latch cable and just wrapped it with electrical tape. Once I unwrapped the tape, I saw why it was there.

I also replaced the three strikers for the rear cargo doors. I noticed they were worn when replacing the latches.

Easy day with some progress. Gotta love that.

Took some pics of Truck Vault in the rear for @nutt7 . I shortened the original box by 14 inches as shown in an earlier post. I reattached the rear piece with wood screw and liquid nails. This thing is super stout and has side panels that were trimmed to fit the space between the vault and the side of the truck. As you can see, I use one corner for fluid storage. It locks and has a spot for additional padlocks.

I love the account name

The funny thing is....I've used this name since the original Xbox online halo days. Probably close to 15 years. Then across a bunch of forums for different hobbies. Now I find myself with a big ass suburban and two young daughters. Feels like it was all in preparation.

Lol I think I mentioned this coincidence early in this thread? Might have been yours too? I can’t remember for sure? But I do want to tell you that nun killers are no laughing matter... The truth is that 14BSFs are instruments of nun killing death. Kittens, puppies, baby seals... orphans... they’re all at risk!!!
