Anti-Theft Devices You Use...

The problem I see with disabling the starter, either with a switch or relay, is that if they're determined and equipped properly, they can jump the starter and be on their way, hence why I disabled the fuel pump on my Yukon. No amount of jumping the starter or whatnot is going to make it run. And having no visible switches or contacts makes it hard to jimmy-rig.

When I drove my Jeep alot I would use a master lock and lock the clutch and brake pedal together. I have also shifted the TC into neutral before. Had a friend who used one of the floor mounted high beam switches as a kill switch. 90 lb American Bulldog works if its not hot out and I'm not going to be away from the truck to long. If you think someone is messing with it at home get one of the wirless driveway alarms and put the transmitter in the cab and the receiver in your bedroom. It beeps when motion is detected they work pretty good and are only about $20 IIRC.

If they really want your car/truck, nothing will stop them. It just may take more time and effort. Figure if they break in, break the column and try and start it and it doesn't crank, or cranks and won't fire, they aren't going to stick around in a parking lot in broad daylight or in the dark trying to figure it out, then you need to buy a new vent wing and column. You will keep 99% of thieves from taking it. Our trucks aren't a hot commodity in theft circles anymore. Its all newer stuff for crash parts, lights, airbags, fenders, bumper skins, etc. I have buddies that do repo's, and they WILL get a car, whether they drag it around a corner and then hook it up to a rig, put go jacks under all the wheels or they pour liquid laundry detergent in the tire tracks and up on the flatbed. Only car that is not getting towed easily is a car or truck on bags. My buddies dually lays on the rockers when its dumped.

2 barking (LOL not biting) dogs, a .45 an a .40 a AK-47 whatever im close to I guess ,and the club brake lock.
Why does everyone get the wheel club and not the brake club? Its harder to cut.

I have so many ways to disable my rig in the new wiring system, that's what I'll rely on... and my rig is never far from me anyway.. not like I'm leaving it in airport parking or something..

Could you fabrication savy guys make a t-case lever lock? I would assume it would bolt to the floor, hinge so it can fold down, then lift up to be able to grab and lock the t-case lever in N or L? That would be aggravating for sure.

the club brake lock.

my brother had one of those on his convertible, he liked how simple it was to use. I might look into that...

Could one of the electrical gurus on this site put together a short list on what switch is necessary for which kill? I start looking at the myriad of switch options available and I don't know what amp rating they need to be at, how many volts, wire gauge, etc. If a guy could find out what the requirements are for a switch to kill the battery, or the distributor, or the fuel pump etc, it would make looking through all the possible switches much easier.

I don't know if this is too much to ask, but there is only one way to find out...

I still think the removable Grant steering wheel is the best thing mentioned in this thread so far. When the would-be thieves look in the window and see there's no steering wheel, they'll move on and won't even try to break in. I think I'm gonna get one of those.

I agree, the removable steering wheel and colum lock are by far the best deterents. The cutoff switches are nice, but will not deter someone right off the bat and in some rare cases can be bypasses.

I am all for BIG visuals. Like chaining my biach up. Running chain through the wheels, around the axles and to a beefy tie point that has been sunk into 2 feel of concrete. I plan on gettng Grant locking/removeable steering wheel and keep it so it is not easily accessable.

All these tricks and switches are great , but if it is on the street, all it takes is a guy with a trailer or towtruck and a few wrenchens to drop a drive line and wench up a truck and bail.

I live in a great neighborhood, but I don't trust Jack from Jill that may be walking by not to steel my rig or my hard earned money. My goal is to get it behind a fence... I have always been a big fan of out of sight out of mind.

;)

Sometimes the fence can give cover to a crook's activities while you're not home...that's where the Rottweiler comes in...

interupt the purple wire going to the starter with a toggle switch, same with the ignition wire to the dizzy...

If you do the fuel pump, id hide a relay somewhere, then pull the relay so it cant turn on.

Bingo. I've got a switched wire that runs to a toggle that interrupts the coil wire. With the switch thrown the truck just turns over but delivers no spark, it works great and makes me feel alot better.

How long does it take to get the removable wheel off and into the center console?

If it takes too long, I might skip it, and that will be the day my truck wanders off.

I just had another idea.... for those that have hyd assist put in two hidden valves on your lines and when you leave turn your tires all the way in one direction and close the valves.

My temporary solution is a toggle switch and a momentary switch wired in series with the neutral safety switch. Find the momentary switch and mess with it until your bored. The car won't start until you flip the toggle switch.

I just want the truck back if someone does take it. I will add a gps device to find it. Keep looking over your shoulder, I will be packing heat when I go looking for it.
:D

Does anyone have a good idea for, or know of a, good hood lock?
