Anybody in the Michigan area need a free Chalet shell-only?

2x4's and a screw gun is a very wise idea. Thats what i always do. If its still mounted to the K5...bring a couple 3 ft pieces of 1 inch pvc pipe. After its un bolted i lay on my back and push up by the rear door and have the pipes rolled under the floor which makes the removal process alot easier. Factory you will find a few 2x4's siliconed to the floor in a few spots to support the floor.

I'm sure one could retro fit manual camper jacks which solves 1/2 of the issue...then keep some sort of support to keep the nose section propt up and you would be in good shape.

3/4 ton gear is recommended. Why...15" sidewalls flex and make things squirrely...3/4 ton swap moves you up to 3/4 1 ton truck tires ie: 17/18" tires.

Gonna guess at 2/3 ft above the cab. Same behind the tail gate. They came with frame extensions to extend the bumper. Once i get my house signed for i plan to buy my chalet back and i'll have a place to store it and take a few pics of that.

The roof is held down by straps on the inside via foot mans loops. If the straps are the factory ones they will be dust. And since they are non ratcheting they don't like to stay put. I recommend finding some deeper foot mans loops so that you can use off the shelf ratcheting straps to keep the roof firmly in place. You do not want that roof to deploy while in flight....

I would worry about the interior. Its over 30 years old and parts can not be had for anything. I would redo it anyways with modern gear.

As long as they side seats are there you are golden. They fold out into the bed...

I got an email a few minutes ago that someone picked it up. They didn't say who it was so I don't know if it was Blue85 or not.

Me too, from the wife of the property owner. I asked her if she could share the name of who got it. Might also be one of the guys in our Yahoo Chalet forum....

That's good. At least it didn't get scrapped. Hopefully Someone in here so we can watch the resto on it.

No, it was somebody more local - don't think it was anybody on CK5. This is the only description I got:

However apparently a guy from around here that talked to someone else, I think my son's ex. says he is coming tomorrow to get it.

Hi, The guy showed up today & took the Chalet.

That's about what I got. Have to keep an eye on craigslist...it might pop up again.

I contacted him and well.....

Q: On the rear of the camper there should be a square tag. What are the numbers on it? Here is what the tag will look like http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/ff358/19camper77/Chaletserialnumberplate.jpg Thanks.

Feb-02-14 A: I don't know what the number is and I don't know when I will be able to look at it. The last time I went out in a storm to get numbers it was for some ass who didn't want to buy it just being nosey. Thanks for looking

Which "him", the one with the free shell-only or that other complete one on ebay that "Blue85" is referring to? The shell-only is #0469 built in 7/76 which I mentioned in my post #25 after talking with the now MIA girlfriend of the owner who emailed me pics. The actual owner had joined CK5 and put in just two posts here, #20 & 21 in this thread. He never did post his pics....

The complete one is #0248 built in 7/76, which I got from that seller last year as well. I'm surprised that guy hasn't backed off his price, it's about a grand too much considering how bad off the Blazer is.

Remember to keep an eye on my map of all the ones for sale, there is - to the best of my knowledge - still the gutted free shell-only in NW Iowa...

I was refering to the guy on ebay since it is dated Feb-02-14. Sorry for posting.

Carry on and remain calm!

Aha, no worries. The ebay one re-surfaced on Craigslist back in August 2013 where the guy only wanted $750 for the whole thing, but I first spotted it back in 2008 on Craigslist and he was a grouch about sharing the serial #. If I remember right, I finally got the numbers and VIN from whoever was managing his sale ads last year.

Not on the 'sending anyone out in a storm' bit, I talked to a pal of the owner late last summer. But trust me on this, some sellers get a heckuva attitude when I ask them about their rigs, somehow not figuring out that I can steer more potential buyers to them when they share basic important info about exactly which vehicle they are selling.

If I get the chance at a 4 Wheel Camper one, I will go out of my way for it. To me, it's perfect because it's still wheelable. You could even fit in a garage if not lifted.

When I saw the comments in the eBay add, I thought it was you!

Oh, wait, on the ratty #0248 Chalet, the situation is much more clear for me now. I didn't catch that when Larry asked him for the serial number in February, he was doing that right at the guy's ebay listing. Since the listing looked unchanged since last September, I never scrolled down its page to look for questions. That's where I do have an of error of assumption going on: I've had the thing on my Google map ever since I first put it on the map as item #75 located in Menomonie Wisconsin. When it resurfaced last August on Craigslist, the Menomonie owner contacted me at my blazerchalet.com address, and I talked to his pal maybe around a week later, who was going to get the numbers for me. When I saw it on ebay 4 weeks later, I thought it was the same guys listing it, so I assumed they'd remember who I was when I used the "ebay ask the seller a question" thing to send in a brief reminder about the serial # / build date / VIN, not realizing I was contacting a new owner in a different state. The guy replied with just the numbers, but it never appeared in his ebay listing. So, I might have actually sent the guy out into a storm after all to get all those numbers. Jeez, he could have waited for better weather.

The ownership change also explains what I thought was a weird sudden double +1/2 increase to the price last September. Speculators who don't know a thing about these regularly believe they've found an underpriced "Antiques Roadshow" item they can flip for big money, and they get really bummed when they end up looking at a potential loss.

Doesn't 4 wheel make custom campers? Have you considered contacting them to see if they can just make one for you?

How do you find out more info about the listings on the chalets for sale map? #7 in CT is a shell only that I would like to look into.

Getting a new one made is like $20k and up, which isn't DIY fun anymore. I don't really want to sneak one of those past tight trees, either.

Wouldn't it be cool to get a pop-up trailer camper and modify it to sit in a Blazer bed? The door would go in the back and the two beds would pop out on both sides of the truck. I just don't know if there would be any way to have passenger space besides the front seats - especially if we're talking roll-over safe.
