Another $500 in parts and ill be gutting my IFS :woot:

Trying not to dump it on a credit card as much as I can...

Yah I'm trying to spend as little money as possible on this thing. Don't know if we will put the big axles on or not yet. My buddy got offered some money for the ones on the ranger and the lift so idk if he's gonna wanna put them under my rig or make some money. We shall see. If not I guess we just beet on it till something breaks then go from there lol.

I've got enough pipe left to make the sliders I think, but the pipe I will need for the Eco and rear bumper is gonna run a bit of money so I gotta wait. Can't be spending money I don't have on a project I'm not all that crazy about lol. Any extra I don't spend on bills and gas I need to spend on the blazer and save for lift and axles. Buying my car really set back my funds.

Gawd i know. Im workin likecrazy lately before and after class. Im workin now lol. Got here at 7 worked 3 hours, went to class till noon and herw till 5:30. Ive been goin home and crashin hard core

Wheeled it pretty hard last night. 4 lo, punch her in 3rd sombiatch will go through anything i swear. Launched off a sand hill out on some 2 tracks. Good stuff. At the moment no updates as far as mods, im actually thinking of keeping it low and same setup because for the trails around us that are super tight woods trails, the thing fits in perfect and we can actually haul around in them. Im sure it will get more pipe, I do still want the sliders and beef rear bumper, idk about the exo anymore, seems like alot of pipe and work, plus alot more added weight, It would prolly take around 60-80 ft of 1" sch 40 pipe to do what I wanted, and thats quite a bit of extra weight for the lil 2.9

Find a D35 TTB front and a 8.8" rear out of an Explorer. Cut the fenders to fit at least 31's. Locker in the 8.8".

Wheel the piss out of it.

Whats the ttb d35? Like the twin I beam setup? Sorry dont know much bout them.

Yep, same setup you got cept bigger stuff!
you didn't break anything?
I'm a little dissapointed Adam!

Right now you have the Dana 28 TTB. Kinda wimpy.

The Dana 35 out of the Explorers and 91 or so to 97 Rangers pretty much bolts right in and is pretty beefy. Wheel it with 33's all day long.

The First Gen Explorers 8.8" rear axle just needs the spring perches and shock mounts moved and should bolt right in.

www.TheRangerStation.com is pretty much the CK5 of RBV's.

Oh ok cool. Haha true I shoulda broke it i guess zim:doah:

And ill have to check that out aj, i was on the explorerforums for a while but that place was dead. It would take weeks to get any feedback on anything lol.

I wonder if the explorer axles would have some better gearing as well, this thing is sooooo slow..... some deeper gears would help I think, it never needs to really drive down the road faster than 40-50 or so anyways, just to get to the local trails

Know what's in it now?

Common on the Explorers were 3.73 with 4.10's being rarer. Higher (like 3.55 and 3.23) was also out there. Definitely gotta know what you are buying.

Good part is the first gen Explorers aren't valuable to anyone but Ranger Based Vehicle guys. No one but someone already with TTB wants the D35 TTB and Jeep dorks only want the 96+ Explorer rear axles that come with discs. However if you can score one of those it is a good axle. The 1st gen Explorer's drum brake 8.8" will work with your truck just fine.

I'd say if you can find 3.73 or 4.10 axles I'd just throw it in low and deal with it. Wait until the 2.9 blows up and then look for a 4.0L or 5.0L to swap in.

Well what years am I lookin for that I could just find a whole ex and swap everything over if I could find a whole one rather than buying parts. I used to know all this but my memory went with my will power for the bronco before we pulled it back out lol.

Oh and the SAS isnt happening anymore with the d44 and the ferd 9" rear, those axles are going into a chevy trail rig to just beat on.

Rangers had em, not sure on the years though.

91ish to 97 Rangers had a D35 front and the 4.0L trucks had the 8.8" with smaller 28 spline axles and drum brakes. There's also some early inconsistesies as to what got what and there was even a Dana 28/35 hybrid axle that sucked in the early years of it as well.

TRS can ejumanificate ya. I spent several good years there and they're good folks.

awesome, ill search for some stuff on it and maybe a swapper ex.

BTW aj check ma FB :D you shall be proud

Yes, a square body Explorer.

95 and up had the rounded body with torsion bar IFS up front.

Thats what I figured. I would like to have an auto tranny in it however, Im not so fond of the stick for tight trails where theres alot of gas stop gas stop action. Prolly be not worth the amount of work though

With this vintage RBV you're better off with the stick. The Ford auto trans they got all sucked. Sooner or later they all **** the bed.
