Im assuming its the detroit or a part involved in it.

I get a harsh vibration from my right rear when i get it over a certain speed as if the side gear is skipping or something.

I jack it up an ran it off the ground but couldnt replicate it.
I got parts coming for the front shaft so once I get those ill pull the covers and dig further.
I just hope nothing broken...I hate broken :haha:

Thats a good point. Ill have to check that.

As for the speed (totaly guessing since this truck never had a functioning speedo since i had it) Id have to say anything over ~20-25 mph. I did notice that it went away when i did a left u turn but that may mean nothing.

Thanks guys!

Yea.... Check yer pressures.
Get them the same.

Then, measure you rear tire heights.
I'm willing to bet they're a little off, size-wise. :waytogo:

The first time I drove my K5, after 9 months of sitting....
My Detroit was clunkin-and-a-bangin', and makin all sorts of racket.
Found out my Rear tire pressures were off by 3 psi.

3psi is what it took to make my Detroit vocalize its disgust with me. :haha:
Same thing, over 25mph was HARSH, but, in my case, right turns even'd it out.

ANYTHING tire related, those H1's will take to the next level.

Makes total sense once I thought about it.

Anyways I set them all to 32. The right rear was 10lbs above the left rear so I brought that down to 32 and the left front was at 45 :haha:

Gonna wait till it stops raining since my wipers dont work

But in other news I did manage to get my front driveshaft back in :woot:
Also started planing out my front bumper situation. Going to incorperate a winch mount but gotta figure out how big of a space to make in order to not limit the space needed once I get a winch
Im also going to make a stinger since all the cool people have em :haha:

And thought this was funny. My dads D44 cover almost fit into my D60 cover
:haha:

Tire imbalance

so the mystery of the vibration coonntinues:doah:

So heres what I did.
1. set all tires to 32 psi...vibration still present
2. found tire hights differ at this pressure so i set the tires so that they both measure 35"...vibration still present.
3. Jacked up the rear and hooked up the speedo (:woot: hasn't worked in ages!) and got the truck to replicate it at ~30 mph so this makes me think its not a tire size/pressure issue.
somehow persuaded the women to get the truck up to 30 mph as I watch the RR tire area to see what it was doing and seen that it looked a bit off balance.
4. switched the rear tires from side to side and the vibration seemed to move which causes me to think its in the tire.

so this got me thinking that my insert that i bought is causing the imbalance. here's why. the 3 inserts that mike had came from Trail Worthy Fab(...which i wish I bought the replacement from.) and these were one piece units with no breaks as in they were solid.
Now the replacement one that I got was not 100% like these. instead of being solid, the vendor that I bought em from put a cut in it so it would be easier to install/remove. this cut also opens up when you slip it over the back piece of the H1 so there is a gap between the edges of the cut.

Now the question and my idea of a solution.
could the gap in this insert be causing an imbalance? Mike said that the H1s amplify the imperfections in the wheels so I have a feeling that this is my problem.
And for the solution, could I throw some balancing BB's in it to counterbalance the gap? or an I gonna need to get a solid insert? :dunno:

sounds like the tire may be offcenter on the wheel, or the wheels may be a tad off.

Do you have these

No but i have read about those. Ive read that some say you need em and others say you dont.
Im not sure that would cause it since the other 3 that have the solid insert seem to have balanced fine.

I should clarify that when i say gap i mean its atleast a 3-4" gap.

I think im going to try the bb's in just the one tire and see how it does. My only concern is that gap and the possibility that they will get inbetween the rim and the insert since its open and not do their job :haha:

Wally world has a 5000 ct container of .12g bbs for $9 and that should do atleast 2 tires

^ :waytogo:

I think that the bead isn't even, in the beadlock area.
Like one side is higher in the beadseat than the other.

That would cause the sidewall to whip up-and-down, back-and-forth.
Causing a vibration.
But it could also be the PVC insert.
I never trust those cut ones.

EDIT:
Taking what you just said, about the gap, into account...
I think the insert could be it.
I'd rather replace the insert, and re-seat the beads ONCE, than twice.

I split a container in 2 tires and it worked for my square bais ply tsls

Were your inserts solid or did you have a gap too?

Assembling/disassembling the wheel isnt a problem. I just dont want to have to spend another $50+shipping for another insert.
I messeged the vendor to see if he had solid inserts so maybe if the bb's dont work then ill see about that route since hes local and he'd probably just switch it out for the right one
