Black Betty - Formerly Blaze the Monster Machine

1984 K5 Project for Dad and kids
Started putting shifter parts together. Im missing the part that goes from the linkage to the transmission. What is that part called? Also, is this the short or long shaft 48re? It’s a 1997 2wd model. Also need to find a bushing and shorten the main rod as someone added 3” to it for the body lift it used to have. IMG_3661.jpegIMG_3660.jpeg

To connect to that factory lever, there is a U shaped part that goes onto the selector shaft. This will also require the pivot bracket to be mostly in line with the selector shaft.
@Greg Ducato has a source for the plastic pivot bushing, last that I knew.

I suggest waiting to shorten the main linkage rod until you get the pivot and lever done.

That u shape part have a specific name? And the rod needs to be shortened to even mock it up. Sticks down 2” past the shackle bolt and gets hung up.

Got around to finally finishing the wiring for the terminator. The circuit I had found that was hot while cranking couldn’t power both the Holley and MSD. So I found another circuit and then leaned into the overkill is underrated and ran them to a relay for full 12v power. Also gives me a few extra fused relayed circuits. Ignore the messiness. Need to order some snake skin and clean it up. IMG_3664.jpeg

Now that the final bit of wiring is at least installed and solid, time to move on to the nuts and bolts of getting it driveable. Finish tightening body mounts, front shocks, bleed brakes, exhaust, driveshafts, shift linkage, fix the power steering leak and finish connecting the steering shaft, and transmission cooler fan.

Rigged up an exhaust today. Not certain it should be called that but there’s at least a few feet of pipe behind the o2 sensor now instead of 6”. Tried to do the rear driveshaft and it’s half an inch to long fully collapsed so that’ll have to get redone. Front driveshaft is in although I question how much the splines are engaged. Brakes are bled and holding. Trying to figure out why my power steering is leaking. Brand new pump and hose. O ring looks good. There were two styles available on Rockauto so may have gotten the wrong one. Waiting on shift parts to come in to finish that off.

So close to driving but that rear driveshaft is a show stopper and I’m tapped on money at the moment. Bought a gift for my tundra.

Dropped the driveshafts off at driveshaft specialists in San Antonio. The rear one is going to be shortened and rebalanced. The front is going to built brand new instead of just lengthening it. They are going to throw a different CV flange on it that'll give me an extra 10* swing (currently it's the OE from 1985 or so from the donor with OE u-joints). Nice folks and great reputation. Should have them back early next week and then going to get them installed that weekend. Getting close to pulling out of the garage under it's own power.

Was only an extra $100 so why not.

Now to get the shifter connected, steering shaft seated, new power steering pressure line, top off some fluids, and see if it’ll drive under its own power.

did you get this installed on your Tundra?

Need to get a better video. It was still pig rich and we were adjusting the power enrichment and how it comes on. It’s freaking fun. Running around with the boost controller off at 3.5-4psi it’s fun and quick. Turn the boost controller and meth on and it’s a rocket. I embarrassed a Mercedes clk who tried to block me from passing on a two lane black top. Cracked me up. I’m kicking around upgrading the fuel pump and cranking the boost to 10-12psi but it’s plenty fast at 7psi and I’m trying to not make my daily my fun car. Wife has given me permission to pick up an iroc Camaro since my son is obsessed so you’ll be seeing that build thread in a few months.
