lol nice ya im leaning towards it. its a pretty good deal. this is what you used to build your cage?

Yep. Bending the 2" .120 DOM in a 135 degree shop was a lot of work.

When you order that, order Bendtech pro for designing. Will pay for it's self in saved tubing.

dam 275! i watched a you tube on how to use it. it doesnt look to hard. on the bender is it marked with the rotational degrees?

Depends on where you buy the bender. Some throw in one die. Usually a small one.

The video assumes you know how to do a 3d layout. The best way to design is with a string ran down the center of the truck level with the floor. Then all measurements are done with distances and the program determines the angles. The nice thing is it wants ceiling, floor, left and right instead of XYZ or their negatives.

so run a string down the center and measure from that the left, right and measure from ceiling to floor? how do i compensate since my k5 is a 81 and has the dip in the floor for the rear passengers feet? wana make sure i understand this before i blow 700$ on everthing not including the welder lol

The dip does not matter. It is still just a distance from the string. The string can be on the upper floor or strung at dash height or anywhere level and down the center.

and do you put those deminsions in only once in the program. and to get the center should i measure from where the a pillar will be to where the c or d pillar would be? or from the firewall to the tailgate?

The dimensions are put in separately for each bar. I did each hoop individually. Mounted them to the floor plates, then did the connecting and cross pieces. You do not have to design the entire cage in the software.

Center side to side overall is what is important.

Once I figured out how the software worked. I took the string out and designed the hoops starting at one side then going across. Then tied them together. Would take 5 minutes to show you how.

What are you doing next Monday morning? I will be going through Flagstaff at about 9am. Vegas bike week!!!!!

oh dang! hopefully not working!lol ive had the last 2 mondays off. ill ask for next monday off. my brother in law and sister live in loveland colorado. and ill be goin up there in a few months to visit for a wk or 2. i dont plan on starting the cage til next spring after the snow melst. since i have no garage and dont wana be half done and have it snow. and i still gota save for a bender and welder. boxing materials and other stuff i wana do. just tryin to do as much research as possible til then.

Let me know when you head this way then. Even if the work is a ways off, I can show you how the measurements are done.

sounds good. thats what im confused about the most is how and where to mesure. and when i go up there maybe you could show me how the software works too. and how do you weld the tubes at the top inside the cabe? do you make it so you take the roll cage out and then weld it?

I have built cages in cars, typically I cut a hole in the floor to drop the cage down and get em welded up. Sometimes I have been able to plan all but the final weld so I only had to do one hole in the floor, and sometimes its just taking a window out.

I have also built the cage kind of in 2 parts.

Good planning is key here but with a blazer you should ( with a bit of planning) be able to weld everything without much cutting of holes in the floor or anything.

Here's something different that I'm experimenting with on the buggy to see how it does, and depending on the results may do the same on my k5 build. The cage is also tied into the frame in at least 12 places.
