budget beater - . . . HOLMES 220 single line boom wrecker install starting ..

Double chain drive

So you moved shifts and got sick? Allergic to sunlight?
I have been sick too, still feeling crappy but I have to go to work.
So you flipped the 56" springs to move the axle back?

i think it was a bad case of fast food from the night before . after i had my dinner from local chain store fast food place i was felling a bit yucky . but by the next day my gut was felling like crap all twisting / turning . . . much better today just got to not push to hard on gas or this will happen :poo: @Bent77

ding ding ding we have the winner :lombardi:

yes and no. . . springs were in old truck backwards to make it as short as possible and keep wheel base as long as possible with short frame i used .

now the springs are in correct and the axle just needs to be flopped around. but i think i will ditch this 14ff for another one i have thats a srw axle . current is a C&C narrow drw with spacers. spacers have been fine for many years no problems.

lunch break

frame no good anymore from cab/back . hit it with a air hammer and button head and blew right threw it in a few spots . cant wait to check out the front half .

doors and glass are off/out . hood off and fluids draining .

now its burger and fry's for lunch with chocolate milk .(y)

cab is gutted 100% and ready to slice and dice up . . . :hack::grind::weld:

thinking PLASMA cutter . . . . not sure yet . if i can get cab bolts out or cut heads off i would pic the whole thing off .

few pics from today . . . and FYI : that rust filled this whole 5 gal bucket . :1zhelp::doah::eek:

the engine block and heads are so rusted i think i will not be re-using this motor sadly as it ran so good .

the cab was stripped 100% of all its parts and is ready for 4 bolts and pop off in the am .

the floor was so bad you can see inside the cab support channel and the cab was dropping on that side . the floor pan and rocker area was blown out also . the firewall was puffing on the inside of the cab .

she was a good doner body years ago for what i paid for it . and for the amount of crap i tossed at the old girl she treated me well with no real regrets .

Always sad to have to chop up an old friend. I like that you are reusing it in your new build.

1 huge pile of scrap metal in the corner of the shop driveway now .

and another 2 gal of rust off the shop floor for a total of 7 or so gal of rust if you want to count it that way .

just a few oil & brake fluid stains on the shop floor to soak up with speedi-dry now .

i removed almost 99% of the nuts/bolts/screws/wiring that i could save for use later . i am whipped doing this the last 2 days straight . now to lay out the plans for the birth of this new budget beater 2.0 . . . .

got to love the plasma cutter . . . made stupid quick work of getting at the back cab nuts and also removing a chunk of floor pan .

then it cut the frame in no time and then there was nothing but a few oil and brake fluid stains .

now time for the BUILD UP to begin

Good progress! But I don't know if I should push the like button.....
:dunno:
Poor truck.....

so this build will try and be use what i can get used cheep / have on hand not in use now / refurb my self .

with that said . . . time to take the AGR steering box off my PLOW MACHINE build as its not ported for hydro assist i need on it for the front locker . when ready i will get a ported box for hydro assist to replace it .

i am going to use the holley snipper from PLOW MACHINE build since its not ready to fire anytime soon . and it will get me a feel for it for when i am ready for it on the 454 roller motor in it .

then i am going ether the 2wd donor trucks engine or the 350 roller i have from the STUBBY project i parted out .

next is the doubler i have from STUBBY i never got to try . so unbolt the round adaptor and bolt the stock 203 adaptor on it . then cut down the th400 tail shaft to the correct length and bolt it up . since i have to build 2 shafts anyway why not use it and out no extra coin .

the only thing i have made all out purchase sofar is the tires .

well today was productive to say the least . . . .

we do have a small problem tho i spotted already with the box set on the frame . with drive line weight and the cab & front clip on i know it will drop a bit but its TALL :yikes:

pics later when i get in the house .
