budget beater - . . . HOLMES 220 single line boom wrecker install starting ..

the BUMPER

pic 1 = other truck height view point .

pic 2 = honda civic view point .

looks wide but thats the pics . when you look down the side of the truck its flush with the width of the truck body . and i measured a stock width bumper and added 2" total to the width .

just need to finish weld it up for the main brackets to the body of the bumper . then 1 kicker per side for corner bracing . grind the face flush/flat for clean look . and black paint .

burned in and holes drilled 4 - 1/2" to bolt the bottom section to the main section . then there wil be a tie in point later for the 2" reciver to the goosneck hitch for 1 SOLID pulling platform .

even made angled washers to line the 4 - 1/2" bolts up correctly on the slope of the c-channel . that upper one did get fixed for full flat seat . he was a hair to long was all .

thinking a 2nd plate area on the left also so i can run legal plate and this old school ad plate . there will be a bar stock brim like a hat above the plates to hide the light and protect them . will be bent with a 30* - 45* on each end and swing back in for a sweept back look .

HEY!!!! What's with the GMC plate 9n a Chevy????

:rotfl:

I gotta give you SOME grief..

How come you didn't just weld the lower piece on or make it all out of one piece?
you price out 8" c-channel let alone 12" channel ?

and i wanted it to look like a old school build it as you want bolt together combo . lots of old trucks had bolt on big hitches like this . this is just my twist on it .

love being able to think it out and play with my tools / toy's

swag offroad press plated & there finger press break setup got me just were i wanted to be with the help of my wixey digital angle finder . to get the 15* bend i wanted it was about a 1:1 pump - degree ratio and then 3* over to allow for spring back to get the 15* .

did 16" strip of 1.5" wide 1/4" thick bar stock . then 2" in for stop line on each end . then 1/2" on the ends . then connect the points for the triangle cut off . then bend the ends at the 2" mark to 15* . then square them u on the bumper and weld in place . perfect slope so stuff dont stick on them but protect the plate and light good . even drilled my 3/16" wire hole before weld on . going to run a led light strip with 3m sticky tape on it .

now to just burn them in for good . :weld: :grind:

I like how you did the receiver section. :D

Those little Wixey digital angle finders are so handy. I've used it way more than I ever would have thought.

got mine years ago when i was doing a lot of alignments . some cars/trucks it wanted to know the frame angle to set the alignment correctly . mostly stuff with torsion bars . so i got this and i would zero it on the rack then hold it to the frame and got my read out .

Yeah that zeroing feature is very handy.

good news . got the shackle angle dialed in and hangers test bolted in place with 2 bolts for now .

body line measure shows its basically level within 1/8" . so if i need it up a hair now then i can do that with a set of zero rates .

long day reworking the springs . tore them all apart and hammered the rust chunks off and ground the rest off . then a quick thick coat of paint and back together and in the truck . all this work paid off already . just bouncing the suspension by hand in the shop you can see and feel the springs flex a LOT more . there not binding on rust anymore .
