budget beater - . . . HOLMES 220 single line boom wrecker install starting ..

got a bit more done today so far .

2wd rear front hangers cut down to clear the bed floor . then a tab welded on the back side to give me the bottom flange lip to bolt to like stock or other flips do . just have to drill a few holes yet then these boys are done .

then a pic of suspension back together after the axle swap for the one i am going to run .

last is the rust pile from JUST the rear spring rebuild . and these springs are not that old . the part# sticker is still on the eye ends. be lucky if they have 10k miles on them in there life span from new . :doah:

I'm no expert but it seems that your missing some stuff on that rear end

gosh you guys just wont leave my rear end alone . . . . .

first its in backwards . . . now its missing stuff . . . . what more can i do to make you happy ?:rotfl:

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want a truck without low range, but I can understand why they are going away from it, the avg. person doesn't need it. At least that's what their market research is telling them.
Well, you're the one who keeps showing your rear end....
So expect criticism!

had to go hit up the local machine shop buddy today . had 2 receiver holes to clean / square up from welding warpage problems.

1 was my problem o the bumper pull hitch setup .

the other was less to clean up but the goosneck ball now fits just like it should . @cybrfire just so you know it looked like the 2 halfs you bent and welded up got a little twisted . the top half of 1 face and the bottom half of the other then the same on the other half . just took a light skim to clean up was all .

Does that take a the same ball like what you use in a B&W turnover hitch? And does it just have a regular pin underneath like a standard hitch?

kirt set it up for a B&W ball yes . i found my ball on ebay for 30-40 buck less than retail new . was out of box new unit .

and as for pin kirt leave the pin setup to you . he does punch the hole per side for a pin already before he welds it up . fairly easy to make a pin tho with pull lever and spring .

and even after this tiny rework i did and make my own pin lever setup its still over 100 bucks under b&w unit . and its MUCH bigger .

ahhh screw it . its fun fabbing and welding :grind::hack::weld:flagwaver

last one in and done . no more for this MASSIVE hitch combo . :deal:

did another chunk of 2x2x3/16wall for a cross bar . drilled a 1/2" hole each end that lined up with the holes in the frame rail already . then punched a single 3/4" hole on top to press in the spacer tube so the 2x2 wont crush . then i took a hunk of 2.5x2.5 tube and cut out a angled/spacer filler / section and burned that in place . . . . so in total there is 8-1/2" bolts holding this bumper pull hitch in the frame . 6 on its own and 2 shared with gooseneck .

I used the black tractor paint from my local farm store on my flatbed and rolled it on and it's held up better than any black spray paint I've used in the past.

little bit of work today on the truck between other house duty jobs .

frame sections primed yesterday and painted today were stuff will bolt up in place . then do the rest later on the lift .

went semi gloss black for a little age look and not as fresh built . plus hides stuff a friend told me .

I prefer semi-gloss anyway. I just think it looks better. Glossy on a frame to me seems like you're trying too hard.

Nice work on tying the hitch into the gooseneck. I've always wondered if you could tell a difference towing with a setup like that.
