buggy build thread.. F-ING TRANSMISSIONS

Then you should've kept the big block. Duh... :doah:

no.. I wanted to go to fuel injection, a nice kit for the big block would have been spendy and soured the deal. These motors weigh considerably less and I can still have as much power..win win..

Negative. No small block can compare to a healthy big block. There's no replacement for displacement.

Besides, as much money as you piss away, whats a couple g's for a BB FI setup?

You had 454 cubes and you're going to 366 and saying that 325 isn't enough to make you smile?

There's gotta be more to it than that, retrofitting a Vortec or TBI setup wouldn't be as expensive and involved as a motor swap, and you're going to be throwing heads at it anyways, so you could grab some used alu BB heads to shed some weight.

Are you looking to spin it higher or something?

fuel injection
alot less weight!
heads are 1/2 the cost
alot more rpm's
throttle response

its worth the effort of money

a decent set of heads for the big block is 2000.00 loaded, a good fuel injection system can be 2000.00...so 4k and alot left to do $$$$$ wise

6.0

1k to get it
900 for loaded 6.2 heads
1k for harness, rework, fuel system and tune
add another 1k for a cam and budget nitrous system

the 4k spend on the small block get me alot more for the money and a easy 450hp/tq with out the giggle gas..not to mention the sheaded weight and gained rpms!

besides the big block left to its new owner on saturday, it will be missed but im ready to move on

Make sure you post up the details of your GEN III build. I can't decide if I want a 383 or 6.0/6.2 when I win the lottery. :D

Lets just see what he does... it's not like he's done half ass work in the past. Just be sure to post up a video when you finally wheel that thing!

Yeah, the 6.0 is the way to go... stock lq4 will make more power than a 5.7 ls1.
don't waste your time with block huggers or shorty headers, get some long tube headers they make good power.

i was looking at doing L92 heads on my LQ9 build, but i didn't want to give up too much low end torque, if i was building an all out race truck just for WOT in the dunes, i would have gone for it, but i'm building my truck dual purpose for racing and for crawling..
Look at the test they did in the hot rod magazine, they picked up a buttload of HP but sacrificed a bit of low end, and shifted the whole powerband higher in the rpms. i'd be loving it in the dunes, but not so much at 900 rpms trying to crawl the thing.

i'm pretty damn happy with my LQ9 6.0L, got a custom grind cam a little bigger than the TR224 i recomended.. it should be good for about 450hp.
Got me a 2nd place trophy at the mud drags the other weekend, the only truck that beat me was this green longbed that had a 720hp zz572r.
we were only racing 125' but i think i put up a pretty good fight for being way underpowered...

1k seems a little high for the harness fuel system and tube to me

its 750.00 for the harness/rework and tune, this also includes the motor bench tested and ran when I pick it up.. for me its worth it..no guessing or wondering, I know it ran on his stand so it should when I drop it in. I am running the msd pump, 100.00, corvette reg/filter 40.00, add the fittings and fuel line and I am at or goin over 1k real easy.

Be careful with the MSD fuel pumps. They aren't all that great if it is the inline style that I used to run in my truck. If you are going to run an inline pump I would suggest a better pump like the Walbro that I am/have been running for 3yrs in my K5 and 2yrs in my Dodge CTD.

hmm well moneys already spent, i know someone who has a few years on his so I felt it was a decent choice. ILL look at the walbro though

yes sir, walbro 255lph pump. :wink1:
maybe its just me but all the cheapy universal high pressure fuel pumps around ~$100 seem to be the same generic pump with a sticker on em..
i've had decent luck with the cheaper pumps, but not great, i'm averaging about 2-4 years, so i'd buy two and have a trail spare.
if you starve the pump or suck air and make the pump whine, down at like 1/8 tank, thats what kills em.

I bought 2:D

the pump I looked at the airamotive was near 300.00 or more so I figured having a spare was not a realistic option at that price, but I can have a spare and money left over for the regulator/fliter and even spares for those all for the price of one pump.

With you having a few gen III motors you may want to look into a tuner of your own, you could save a bit of money on tuning and change things when ever you want. Its so nice to be able to turn on electric fan option and change temps with out having to sent the PCM out, that and if you add a mod you can tune it your self
