Building the Ultimate M1008 *Beadlocked 42's w/ pic's**

So where are all your trail pictures from moab? Sorry I couldnt look you up when I was in nellis, we were swamped with F-18 radar crap!

do you have any pics of the front fenders finally cut with the 42s? im trying to see if there is a way i can keep the inner fenders with 6" susp and 1" body with 42's:crazy:

I can take some pic's of the fenders when I get home. I removed the inner fenders and still need to trip the front half of the fender to the point where the marker lights will have to go.....I also had to remove some of the core support.

Here is a link to my friends gallery http://picasaweb.google.com/nimitivd/Moab2006

Here are a few of my fav pic's from the trip. The truck handled great! No breakage. The only problem I could think of was there was too much bed! I will have a shortened flat bed and departure angle here in the near future.

The camera was acting weird, but here are some pic's. Front def needs to be trimmed toward the front and the bump stops might need to be lowered. I have been slacking as far as putting time into the rock crawler since Moab......:o .

Right now I am focusing on a trip to the Hammers in April for the Tin Benders thang.

Gotta a list of all sorts of stuff I have to do.:doah:

looks killer! do u have anything planned for the truck before the tin benders event?

Oh yes!

Right now I am trying to sell a rifle to fund my new projects, heres the list:

Finish 32 spline Dodge NP241 FY swap (need custom clocking ring)

Flat bed

Fuel Cell (already have one, just need to put it in when the flat bed goes in)

Hydro Assist

Misc. things that need to be done:

Truss those custom rear spring swivels I have

Replace DRE's

Need spare wheel for the spare 4D2:D

Rock Lights

JY Rear driveline for the new xfer case

Tube doors if I still have any money left over (I doubt it, I never do:doah:)

That should get it to where I want it for a while......I hope:o

I have a question for you. I noticed that you mounted ORD's X-Over Steering arms backwards, with the arms facing toward the pinion yoke. Why? Did it clear okay, or did you have difficulties. What does this do for your trucks undercarriage?

I have the x-over kit and am looking at this with interest. Can I ask you to help a wheeler out?

Thanks!

I actually have WFO High steer arms. The draglink and tie rod I got from ORD.

The skinny on the high steer arms is this: When I put them on originally I found out the oil pan sat on top of the tie rod once it was moved up and behind the axle. I opted to just buy a beefy tie rod replacement instead of notching the oil pan and or customizing the tie rod to clear it.

Now the WFO arms accept the larger taper shank of a draglink end instead of the tie rod end that my original ORD draglink was setup for. Instead of taking the draglink to a machine shop to have it cut down to accomodate the new longer body DRE and tapped. I just swapped the arms around and am using the end which was originally meant for the tie rod.

Looks pretty gay, but I threw away the old kingpin caps and needed to use both arms.

flatbed it going to be sweet... are u locked up front? are u going with VV4W's?

I welded the front up (bad decision) had no funds and don't like wheeling with an open front. I know a bunch of the VV4W guys, but am going with my 2 friends Trevor and Travis. They have nice Heeps and we pretty much are our own club......

Here's a pic of mine with 44's and 6" BDS springs with no body lift. I still had the inner fenders. I was using 12" wide wheels, and sometimes rubbed the cab or the top of the inner fender but both were smooth so it didn't bother me much. I could have left the side marker lights but I would have had to trim them. This is the only pic I have of it with this setup and I used my camera phone to take it.

This is after I swapped to 52" front springs. I had to lengthen my cut forewards to acomodate the 2" movement the springs provided and after a little backyard flex I had to cut the fenders up to the body line, I lost the option for factory inners at that point. I also had to cut the radiator support up to the front marker light.

My bud cut the rad support also. I am going to have to for sure cut mine too. There is just no room for these big meats.

No updates yet. I am trying to sell a rifle of mine to get some funds for my projects. My wife is changing jobs so the money has come to a halt. I have just been doing things like flushing coolant system, changing the oil, and other minor maint that has needed a tending to.

Wheeling with a longbase vehicle in Moab is awesome to say the least. I made the dump bump look easy when most K5's could not even get up it. The stability of the longer wheel base is great and the fact your front tires are usually over the obstacle before the rear tires even begin it helps out a lot.

The only downer I would say is the bed and departure angle which I will remedy with the flat bed and cutting the frame ends off behind the shackles. Also you need really big tires to offset all that break over angle. Hence the 4D2's after my Moab trip:D

Sorry I am kind of at a stalemate with the build so nothing really exciting is going on, it bums me out pretty bad:(

thanks for the info man, im hopin for a m1008 soon and was checkn to see how u thought it was in moab compared to a k5. i thought it would be way too long, but im glad its not :) i too will soon have an "ultimate m1008 thread":p: but im using some slightly different parts than you so i think the 2 will be able to co-exist:haha:

That's cool. Mine is really far from the ultimate compared to a lot of guys here. But my 4yr old and 2 yr old think it is the coolest thing ever....lol.

I think the ultimate rig doesn't have to have all the bling stuff as long as it can make it down the hard trails without breaking and hang with the big boys, it is Ultimate in my book ;)

if you need more flex in the rear, you could increase your shackle angle. it looks a little steep.
