Burnt burb resurrection (It's mine again!)

Red is my place. Roof is 31x29 for reference. Blue is the place we can try for.... but if I do we don't get a furnace (haven't had one in the 13 years I've lived here). Kind of a roll of the dice. Then we have to tear down the house, seed the yard, AND pay to build a 30x36 or so shop........

Anywhere from here is worse schools and farther from work by the way. I'm actually right in the center of the school system, and 15 min from work

Meh. If you want enough room for a shop I'd be looking just outside of town. It's Iowa, rural countryside houses that already have pole barns are everywhere. Keep the acreage size down and it shouldn't be obscenely expensive. If you want cheap land in large parcels, Iowa might not be the best place to be.

Work is across the bridge, right? I didn't realize you could be across the border and still be that close. :dunno:

She won't let me get rid of it because she wants it to be kaz's truck. Kind of like my older boys blazer. I just have to make it last long enough for him to start working on it with me lol.... that'll be a while
I understand her thinking there but it doesn't make sense to hold on to a vehicle that needs repairs now or very soon that you can't really afford to do nor do you have the space or time to work on. Cut your losses and move on. In 16 years if Kaz is even into cars, then you can find something that you both want.
I put 16 years in bold because I'm emphasizing that that's a really long ass time and a lot can change between now and then.

I drive straight across the bridge from my house and its like 12 miles from there. 12.5 total driveway to driveway. Any where else puts me farther from the bridge, meaning farther from work.

Pretty much what my thoughts are and what I told her. She's also holding on to the fact that it's paid off, and its actually how we started dating. I seen her online talking about getting her license and wanting to drive, so I told her I'd let her drive my truck and sent her a pic. We set a date and I showed up in my car instead lol. She had to have a second date to drive the truck :) . So that's her other reason.

As for the alcans,,,,,. I'll just sell you the whole burb for like $3500 if I decide to sell it :thumb:. Then you can do whatever you want with the alcans lol

I understand the desire to be as close as possible without living on the wrong side of the river, but a couple miles outside town might be worth it if you want a shop badly enough. Where you are looks pretty much landlocked. And tearing down a neighboring house to build a brand new pole barn can wind up pretty pricey when all is said and done. :dunno:

Yeah we've been looking around. Found a few but they were sold before we got to the realtor, even though we went as soon as we seen them posted.. we no longer have a down payment so we're stuck here a while. Can't sell my place for enough to pay it off without a furnace. So the check we get soon will have to get a furnace so we can sell, or go without the furnace and buy the neighbor house. As for getting outside of town it's hard, because the school zone for our school is TIGHT to the borders of town, and immediately out side city limits is 2 other districts depending on what direction you go. And there is NO WAY he's going to either of them districts.
If it's close enough we CAN open enroll him though. We just have to drive him there everyday because the bus won't get him

I don't want to stay here really so I'm just getting a furnace and calling it good for now

2 of these 30,000 BTU wall heaters. One in the basement, one in the center of the first floor. They both stay set low and keep my 2100sf house at about 75* for about $65 a month. Certain rooms during real cold months will dip to about 65 so I put an oil filled radiator in them also on low. A typical January or February bill for the house is maybe just over 300 at worst for electric and gas combined.

If you're already paying for a gas contract, you should see your heating cost drop quite noticeably. For comparison, up here in da cold woods I used 875 Therms last year (September-September). This cost me an actual expense of $582, counting meter charges for all 12 months. LP @ $1.50/gallon would have cost around $1400, and buying that much electric heat @ $.11/KwH would have cost me $2800 (not counting metering charges since those are a given unless you go off grid).

Yes, our winters are colder than yours, so our numbers are bigger overall. But I have run electric heat at a couple of places, and I do not miss it one bit. Spending $300 on monthly heat & electricity down in warm Eye-Oh-Way just seems crazy, and even more crazy if you're already hooked up to the gas grid.

Look at the furnace as a cheap investment that will pay for itself pretty quickly if you stay with the house. And will make the house much, much easier to sell if you don't stay there.

I still pay less for heat and power than most everyone I know here with an actual furnace. Even less than some with good size apartments.

That's the only reason I Don't have a furnace lol

I believe that. But that doesn't mean you can't do better. Most residential dwellings absolutely suck when it comes to energy consumption & waste. The bar is set pretty low.

And FWIW, when I lived down there, my utility bills were lower than yours. So your setup has been beat at least once. :pimp: :wink1:

Wait...what am I saying? My bills are still lower than yours and our winter is 6 weeks longer now! :haha:

My normal is 200 to keep a 2100sf place at 75-78*. Thats not bad lol. Most people are doing 70* for more.... and I don't NEED the electrics.... just want to keep them areas at 75 too:waytogo: Right now there's only 1 running. In kazs room. Now that my oldest is out, that's the only one that will even need to run. He ran one in his room because he had windows open to :smokin2::rolleyes:. It may get better with a furnace... :dunno: But I'm only doing it for resale reasons.

Well, after all this time and somewhat of an effort, I sold my burb. It's been around twice as long as any other vehicle I've ever owned. But it just didn't fit my needs or wants anymore. I sold it at an exceptional deal to a buddy of mine that I've been friends with since I was 4.

It was a decent run, but will treat it better and actually use it lol. He was the first of my friends to see it and has been in love with it ever since. I think it's in good hands. He plans to sell his 2wd regular cab 3/4 ton and put the money into fixing the rust and painting it asap. So that'll be a good start.
I now officially do not own a squarebody or first gen anymore
