Burnt burb resurrection (It's mine again!)

I'd like to, but I wanna wait till I'm ready to paint the whole thing. That way I can fix all of the mounting holes and stuff, then paint the whole thing. For now I'm stuck with it:confused: But it may come out alright? The wheels I got are 10" wide and by a quik measurement it looks like they are even with the flares. The tires may even stick out a little.

I would wait to cut it off, because it may have a nice look who knows. Most dont have those running boards and what not, and also a lift. So maybe that combo could be something cool

Thats kinda what I'm hoping for. They dont look horrible, but they will create rust spots eventually.:dunno: I do think I'm going to trim the wheel openings of them at the corners to make them round off instead of sharp points. I looked at the runners and where I want to cut will be simple and easy.

I remember when those things first came out, and dealers would throw em on and call them "ground effects" among other things... I never liked the look of them, or any other running board. I prefer the clean look of what GM produced...

When I bought Can Can's old '83 pick-up I flew out to pick it up and drive home with my daughter. The original plan was fix the heater core right there and drive home. Instead i left the heater core job, and removed the running boards right there...then drove home with a much better looking truck. :pimp:

I pulled the ones off my old 4runner after sinking it so deep in clay that I bent them up and couldnt open the doors:rolleyes: And yes it looked much better and even beefier. These'll come off one day, I just hope they look alright till then. Wheels n tires are home by the way.

Those are very sexy! What size are those rims and tires?

33x12.5x15 on 15x10 with 3.75"bs(couldn't get them in 4"bs)

I got bored and played a little. It looks like some flare trimming and maybe a little fender reshaping is still in order:confused: I jacked it up and changed the tire, then put a jackstand under the frame by the front corner to keep it up 3" from normal. This was my results. I know this isn't totally accurate, but its an idea.

time for the sawzall, and I agree with ditching the boards....Its your truck of course but I've never liked em either....I think the lift will make them look even more out of place too.
Aren't they just bolted on to the wheel opening, and along the bottom edge of the rocker with some supports to the frame or body mounts?
They should be resonably easy to remove compared to a spring swap.
Really like the tires and wheels.

I haven't dug into how these are mounted but the ones on my old chevy were very similar and they screwed right into the body along the rockers. I got hit lightly on one side and it ripped the screws out. Thats how I found them. It rusted real fast after that. Thats why its gone now:doah:

I started spraying the bolts down today. Most of them look like they'll come off real easy. But I know how that usually goes. I have basically got the permission for the shop I want to use also. I'm going to have to make my own swaybar correction and steering box brace. Cant afford em and they look simple anyway. Next $100+ purchase will be tranny fluid and filter change and flush. Then the oil, front and rear diff lube, and transfercase lube. Should all be Interstate ready then. By the end of that I'll have right at $4500 total in the whole shebang.

BUT, the snowball has only started to roll....

The burb gets a stereo later and some power upgrades. Headers, TB spacer, etc. etc. But thats pretty much it till paint. The snowball is what this truck is for.

I think they would look cool, but if you had like a 6 inch lift going on, I think they are making things look a little cramped up.

After I get the whole lift /tire package done and trim the needed and wanted areas, I'm going to take a bunch of pics at all angles in different light. Then I'll add a poll to this thread to see what comes up. I'm pretty sure its a clear outcome already, but it may change with a good solid pic barrage. If I can get the permission tomorrow, it may be in the workshop on jackstands with pieces missing by night fall.:D the alcans are supposed to ship the 24-25th if all went well. that will give me time to gett under there with some stuff out of the way and clean it up a little more and try to hit the few rust spots on the frame with some paint. I'll probably cleanup and paint the axles while out too. They'll be more visible soon.

I got the ok on the shop today and made room for the burb. It goes in monday and won't come out till its bigger.:D I'm still waiting on the alcans and the drop arm for the steering. But theres alot of stuff I can do till then. I'll keep the pics coming.
