Burnt burb resurrection (It's mine again!)

All of my plans on it may take another small detour after the bills from Atlanta start rolling in..... I hope it's not too bad. I'm expecting about $4k though . That won't be a huge set back if the denali gets sold. But it'll still slow any progress

The ls motors seem intriguing, but every fricken one I've drive are rattle buckets that drive me nuts. Don't know why. But every one has been that way.... my 6.2 being the worst.
Rattle buckets? Explain

Every one I've ever driven sounds like constant lifter rattle. 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, and 6.2. Driven every one, and even my 85k mi 4.8 did it.... I use 91 and stay away from gasahol when possible. And they've all done it... only one I haven't personally owned of them was the 6.0. but of multiple 6.0s and 5.3 at work even, all did it. Can't explain it. But it's been my experience :dunno:

I'm guessing he is talking about some lifter spring noise or something similar?

Almost like LOTs of spark knock. Or all the lifters rattling on acceleration and any light speed increase. I talked to a GM deal mechanic about it and he said it's just what they do... probably run a half a million miles like that with great power..... just drives me nuts is all lol

Maybe you guys have really cruddy gas in your area or they were running something lower than 87 Octane (is there even something lower)???

Just tell everyone you have a rattly old diesel. :wink1:

I'd love to have one.. don't really want a 6.2 or 6.5 anymore, and a 4bt conversion is out because they're LOUD lol... thats the only thing I dislike about the Cummins diesel's . So really I'm boned on getting a diesel. It'd be fine if I was single and such. But my wife thinks it's too loud now lol.

I hate the carb lol. My mpg went to like 8 and even after a shop tuned/ timed it for me it still leaves a lot to be desired.... although I'm not really sold that they did a good job on it.
As for the harness, I'd have to modify and beautify an ls harness. The vortech would go in with my carb and then later have a self tuning FI system like a FAST or Holley setup added.
And really I kinda like the setup John has in his bobbed burb. He has a 383'd vortec with a FAST FI system and a full manual slapshifted 700r4. And gets tons of power with quite decent mpg for the size of his truck.

What JY is that?

Well, regardless of if you keep the carb "for now," you're going to be wiring an EFI system of some sort. May as well do it once and be done instead of wasting time slapping a temporary carb on it.

As for the JY, I'm referring to CC Recycling (K's Acres) at the South edge of Cedar Rapids. They only have 7 acres' worth of cars, so their inventory turns over quicker than larger yards, and whatever is in the yard is usually pretty cheap (which is not so great if you want scarce 6.2 diesel parts :haha:). I've enjoyed a pile of parts from there from my days of living in that area.

If you don't want a 6.2/6.5 or a Cummins, what would you want? 350 Olds diesel? :dunno:

Can't remember who right now, but there's a guy on here with a burb lifted on 35"s, running a 4bt Cummins getting like 27mpg. That'd be awesome to me lol.... sounds like a bread truck, because that's pretty much what the motor came from :)

Umm...didn't you JUST say that the 4BT was a no-go? :dunno:

I like 'em, and if I ever lost an engine I'd strongly consider running one. The swap is pricey but I like how open the engine compartment is afterwards. I've crawled around a couple of B-series Chevy hoods, and I like what I have seen. :)

The aftermarket efis have like 3 wires to splice in. There's a couple sensors to clip onto. But really no messing with a harness. Ls motor there's a bunch of it unless you buy one for a few hundred already done. Still have a motor I don't like really too. Maybe brand new they sound fine... never driven one sooo.?

I said it's a no-go due to the wife.... 'I' would like one though:D

Gotcha.

So...6BT? More power, less cost and less rattling. Would that fly?

Noise level should be a function of exhaust setup (for either engine). There are some good mufflers out there, and the UPS truck isn't excessively loud the way they're set up from the factory.

To run a 4bt even if I didn't care if the wife didn't like it I'd still have to have 500 lbs of sound deadening material under the hood for me to be happy
