carps 89 K5 build (how not to put a k5 on a trailer)

The splined area inside my yoke measured 1.75" long. The splined area did not fully seat back flush with the shoulder on the shaft to pull everything together when the nut is tightened, although I don't remember 3/8" of play. I'm sure there was some end play, I just don't remember how much.

Edit: I had a yoke instead of a flange, but I'm sure the principle would be the same.

I pushed my axle back 1 inch with a zero rate. I can't find my tape measurer but approximating it next to my 34in baseball bat, it's approximately 7 in longer:D. So, let's say about 41in compressed. If I can find my tape i'll tell you exactly. I just got back inside from putting my tcase back in my K5 and I kind of test fit the drive shaft and it's good.

cool thanks man, if you could get the exact measurements once u locate a tape measure that would be awesome:bow:

truck is lookin awesome!

Yeah, I didn't notice the play until I was pulling the flange off from test fitting it and it kind of hung on the output shaft and I noticed the shaft pulling out more. I think whatever it is, is normal, cuz you can tell there is tension on the shaft when it pulls out, so it goes back in when released. I rechecked all the steps after finding this and I didn't miss anything. I put it thru all modes of the transfer case (2wd, 4wd hi, 4wd lo, neutral) and they all work fine

Talked to Jesse at HAD and JB converions. Did turn out to be the flange yoke. Supposed to be an 1/4 in shorter. MuddyBuddy I had to break down and buy a new tape measurer cuz I still couldn't find mine, but my shaft is 39.5 inches long compressed

haha thanks man. how long is it when its fully extended? dont lose the tape measure haha :)

with those pellets or whatever in the tires, do they make all sorts of noise inside the tire just flying around?

when you're at slower speeds, like obijuan said, you'll hear em. Sound kind of like little maroccas (if I spelled that right). But the only time I really hear them is when I stop and hear them drop and hit the wheels

not really, kind of been at a stand still trying to figure out where I want to go with the truck. did some trading with a guy and got some hedman headers and some roller rockers I put on. I put my 241SYE in and my HAD shaft. The rear shaft is awesome but i've been having arguments with the supposed rebuilder of my tranny (that's still focked),SO....

this saturday I'm going to look at some new goodies to fix it:D
or should I say replace it.

going to look a complete 465/205 setup with hydraulic clutch. Probably gonna buy it if everything is kosher like he says. So bye-bye to mr.crapbox 700 and hello to 465. Hate to ditch the 241 after I just SYE it, but can't mate it to the 465.

Kind of making a list of stuff to get in order of importance:

1.) fully functional and dependable tranny
2.) HAD front shaft
3.) spare
4.) detroit for rear
5.) winch/bumper
6.) rock sliders

And might be looking towards 3:1 lomax or 203/205 doubler if I get the 205 (hell, maybe both:haha:my wallet can't afford that though) but just trying to figure out what route I want to go down before I spend anymore money

With the proper adapter and a little work you should be able to mate the 241 and 465.

If the 465/205 is hydro clutch it's probably a 32 spline tranny already. you would just need to make sure the 241 is also 32 spline and then find the correct length adapter and redrill a pattern IIRC.

remember the 241 from your 700r4 is 27 spline, it won't work with the 465

well damn. oh well. Probably just gonna run the 205 then. I just hope the HAD flange yoke I have on the rear of my 241 works on the 205 so I can use my pretty new HAD shaft. I'm pretty sure they're both 32 spline outputs, but I'm just worried about the length since the yoke had to be shorter for the 241SYE
