cavemans CUCV

This rig is insane!! I love it!
I also can't quit looking at how you built that sweet winch mount! I just came into possession of a CUCV bumper and grille guard for my K5, I might have to steal your idea! (If you don't mind)

I have always wanted and needed more power out of this rig. I have always been a big block guy, that being said the Vortec LM7 5.3 and the LQ4 6.0 have had my attention for quite sometime. I have a LQ4 6.0 in my shop truck and I love everything about it except the fuel mileage.

After crunching the numbers I came to the conclusion that a LQ4 6.0 would be out of the question and a LM7 5.3 would cost about the same as building a 454 with Fitech fuel injection.

Since I love low end torque in a trail rig I opted to start building a big block. I have a 1976 454 nothing special 2 bolt main (361959) and a set of 781 heads that I tore down last night and am going to be taking to the machine shop today.

This engine probably won't be a very interesting build. It will have a cam that makes power from idle to around 5000 rpm stock valves heads etc. I am going to put a Weiand stealth intake on it along with a Fitech EFI 4 fuel system. I just need a good reliable engine that will make decent power.

Crusty!

Ready for the machine shop.

Thanks! Feel free to duplicate or improve upon anything I do.

You make this look easy, nice work!

Thank You!

I honestly don't know how I missed this build thread. Very nice work! Truck looks awesome!!!

Thank You!

You are still using this truck with the diesel until the big block is ready to go, correct?

I promise I'm not trying to piss in your cheerios...

I've heard/read that the fuel command is not recommended for 4x4 applications?

I have a fewl friends that run them, one on a buggy, one runs it on a mud truck and another friend has one on a DD/trail rig. All of them absolutely swear by this exact set up that I have. Fitech recommends the Fuel command specifically for 4X4's because even if your fuel tank is low on fuel and sucks air there is usually enough reserve in the fuel command to keep the engine from stalling.

Regardless I appreciate the input. Hopefully I will have the same luck my buddy's have had with theirs.

Right on, first hand experience is always better than Internet rumors. I am hoping to go the same way. Just seems like an easy way to go about things.

What part of Oregon are ya? I'm over in Hillsboro near the North Plains exit on the way to Brown's camp.

How are those bead lock wheels working out? I'm looking for something simple.

They are awesome! I will never go back to steel wheels again. I can run 80 mph and they are perfectly smooth. I aired down to 5 psi in the snow with no problems at all. I highly recommend them.

Did you end balancing them with beads?
