Clunky rear end

Continuing to browse this "clunk" I found this. I have video on mine doing exactly this (posted earlier on). When put in reverse the drive shaft move going into N then a clunk when Reverse is engaged

But we established the rear end is ok so possibly the, yoke or the chain is just stretching out

Driveline slop can be an accumulation of a lot of factors and even when a 203 case was new and fresh it produced a fair amount of slop because it had regular spline tolerances on each shaft, differential slop and chain to sprocket slop.
All these years and miles later ain’t helped that situation out.
Ya’ just got to eliminate those possibilities until you find the culprit.
So far you investigated the rear axle and it appeared to be acceptable ( I assume that you also checked for pinion movement in-n-out while unloaded like described earlier ) and now you move on to the next possibility.

I did everything asked off me and sent video via text to @Wes Harden ...

The th350 is rebuilt 2.5 years with about 250miles on it. I don't want it to be the transmission. I checked and topped of fluid, the level is fine. And shift smooth when driving. It's only into Reverse its clunks and less so into other gears.

The breather tube thing has a green cap on it could that factor into anything?

That cap appears to be a regular breather cap - you could extend it up higher with some line or tubing for added protection.

One reason you could be feeling the most slop, bang and clunk while shifting into reverse more than other gear selections is that while going to reverse it unloads the drivetrain momentarily and ALL the potential slop is now joining the party at the same moment causing the biggest effect.

Makes sense.. very informative posts
Thanks

Prices have risen so high lately for damn near everything it might be inline with the current market.
Notice he’s telling you that the 27-spline male input gear and bearing ( same as the 10-spline input bearing ) are not going to be installed.
You will still need a 27x27 spline coupler and the TH350/205 adapter as well so factor that in as ya’ search for the best deal.

Yeah, I'd rather just get the 10 spline and get the coupler from ORD.

Depending on the price of the 27-27 coupler

Dude named “KAIN” in the General parts classifieds - it was posted in May but might be worth a PM if the other adapter is gone.

Have you checked the motor and transmission mounts?
I was going to do that today. Re-tighten the transmission mounts and check the motor mounts. But the motor mounts and transmission mounts are brand new....

But did you buy the cheap rubber mounts that are available today? Those fail almost instantly.

Nah, those fancy poly tranny mounts and the motor mounts I'm not positive as the shop that did the motor installed those

Welp, the transmission mounts were loose driver side was very loose, passenger needed a few oomphs to tighten...

Gave motors mounts a couple oomphs as well.

Moving forward

The a a adapter doesn't 5bearing or coupler sleeve for that $300
Kain's if still available is a deal

Well, after tightening it all down. The "clunk" is minimal. Still there but the tranny mounts being loose most likely exacerbated the "clunk". It's really only "bad-ish" going into reverse.

May tighten down the Tcase to Tranny support rod as well.

Still moving forward with the 205 switch.

Might not hurt to look and make sure the bolts tight. You know, before tearing the T-case out. Also bad form to use rubber motor mounts and poly trans mount.

EDIT: oops, I missed a couple of posts.
