The only grade I hate is the west side of Eisenhower. For the most part it's not that much different from the WV hills. I've driven that way several times when I lived in VA.
Biggest thing you'll notice is the difference in the vegetation. Our mountains look a lot more barren compared to the tree covered mountains of WV.
West side of Eisenhower is just a long steady grade. Never changes for like 4 or 5 miles.
The one that has tried to bite me before is the west side of Vail. It has changing grades and tighter turns. I once spent some time in a snow storm sideways with a Semi on one side and the Jersey barrier on the other. Want to talk about a lose lose situation in a Ford Taurus.
I think I hate the west side of Eisenhower because it has my worst snow storm experience. Coming back from Thanksgiving (in '04 I think) we got stuck in a 6hour delay. Ended up being several semis that didn't chain up causing traffic to back up all the way to Dillon. Of course I didn't fill up in Dillon when I should have so I thought sure we'd run out of gas. Truck got pretty damn cold sitting and idling in a blowing snow storm.
I really haven't driving Vail pass that many times. Although that's changing now that Mom and Dad live in Delta.
In our monthly saftey meeting yesterday part of the subject was on the increase in the fine for not chaining up your rig when the chain law is in affect. One thousand dollars for those idiots.
Rodney was in Denver this evening about 6PM eating dinner. His plan at that time was to drive on through all the way to Moab yet today. Dad and I think his plan is a little crazy.
HOME!!!
we left Moab Monday morning and after 29 hours of straight driving, 1710 miles and $625.00 (one way) worth of diesel I am home and looking forward to coming again next year. we had a great time and thanks to everyone for being so friendly.
I will be very busy for the next couple days and I will get pics up soon as i can
