I have to wait until November 13, unless I go out and buy a muzzleloader. Here's KY's whitetail deer season:

Holy moly, your season starts early. I cant even think about picking up nuttin until.. well... almost october.

You know, i didnt even get to use ONE Of my supersportsman tags last year? freakin turkey outsmarted me....

I just picked up my hunting regulations, I was wrong, opener is the 14th. Don't know what I was thinking, it's always the second saturday in Aug. BUMMER!

Well fellas this weekend is coming up quick. I will be hunting with my father, like I have always done so, for the past 20 years. I will be driving up to Ojai along interstate 33 in my white K5. I hope to see other Ck5 members that hunt around the area with antlers sticking out the back. Good Luck, fellas.

I thought deer were bigger out there. Here in the east, we got so many biggies, we dont go for the smaller ones.

Too many deer, not enough hunters out east. They seem pretty smart out here though, you gotta go in all dressed like a nature watcher, and then they come over to ya. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

They do come bigger, but not by much. This guy was 85 pounds after I gutted him, I'd say ~100-110 lbs. on the hoof. I have wound up skunked some years because I passed up shots on bucks like this. So, I shot this young guy, good eatin', the younguns. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif I'll hold out for a nicer buck frome here on out, but being cocky out here in CA and passing up shots on decent bucks can cause you to end your season with no sausage in the freezer. Trust me, I know. I have shot some BIG bucks, and for three years in a row I shot an impressive buck, and then I started passing up "inferior" bucks, and I was skunked. So now, I take the shot to put meat in the freezer, tag #2 goes to the buck that makes me quiver like a crack whore. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Actually, he was bedded down, and when I saw him, he hadn't seen me and was only about 75 yards away, but there were trees and brush between us. I tried to skirt around a bit to get a better view, but he woulda noticed me if I tried to move too much. The only shooting position I could manage was kneeling, but not in the typical sense. I was on my knees, with my upper body upright, like a standing shot. I shot for the chest, and broke both his front knees and shot through his lungs. But he got up and tried to run on his front pegs (not very fast mind you). In the excitement of the moment, I couldn't really tell where I hit him, but I could tell he was trying to get away. So, I sprinted up to within about 30 yards of him and when he paused, I put him down with a neck shot. After I gutted him I saw that I had taken out both lungs with the first shot an could have just let him expire with that one. Didn't waste an ounce of meat, though! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Here you can see where that first shot got him, a little lower that what I was going for, but it took out both lungs and woulda done the trick.

Once again, the hour is almost upon us. Aug 11, 1/2 hour before sunrise. YEAHHHHHHH!!! Motherfokkers! I am so excited! I LIVE for this.
